Sorry Frank. Didnt mean to get too technical for you. LOL... In my line of work, we deal in boxes... lots of very fancy, expensive, and technically elaborate boxes. They all do something related to this one thing but its still just a box. So I just meant it as a general term for whatever power steering mechanism might be involved here.

Anything to report?? I wonder if the control valve just needed to be adjusted, since it came off another car...

IT WORKED! Switched the hoses and ran her up, turned the wheel and got the air out. No leaks and no apparent damage from having the hoses back asswards.

I thank you guys for your help, sometimes it's so easy, but we (I) can make it so difficult.

    Thanks again,

    Mark

Just as a warning to anyone who is working on power steering, I once reversed these hoses on a 70 Mustang. When the car was started the steering wheel oscillated from left to right so quickly and with such force that if I had reached through the driver window and steering wheel to start the car it surely would have broken an arm.

It has happened the broken arm thing. Heavy equipment has an orbital valve and it is ran off the hydraulic pump. I saw a guy once that had reversed the lines and started the machine. He broke three fingers and shattered his wrist.
