Most people choose to install the universal, color matched, vinyl/rubber steering wheel covers on stock style steering wheels when they crack. Or they just swap them out for something else. What do you think about about a leather wrap option? The cracks on the wheels would need to be filled in first, but not too perfection. The horn pads and trim are already reproduced for most of them. Maybe theses wheels need a second chance? Just exploring ideas here, what do you think?

I have one of these leather wraps on my '69 Fairlane, and also just put one on a '70 Boss 302 clone. They are high quality and fit well. Looks like a factory produced piece when done.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like a good looking, quality option already exists.
I didn't realize that if the spokes are covered by something, then the continuous holes aren't a problem.

    73 Grabber,
I wrapped my stock steering wheel with leather from wheelskins.com. They had a color that exactly matched my medium blue interior. Took longer than I expected to install but the result is beautiful.

I could use some steering wheel help , actually horn pad related , you mentioned reproduction parts , and I have re-wrapped my wheel in new leather , found actually all nos the horn pad , switch , the rubber switch cover , and the plastic surround , the one thing I can not find either new or even a decent used one , is the mercury crest insert , mine looks very, very bad , and this car is almost perfect except for this , and the hood ornament insert is slightly faded , but it looks ok , we bought everything I could find nos for this car , it is basically brand new , any direction on where to find either of those , either new , or used , I have been flipping over rocks for close to a year now with no luck ... and yes attention to detail , and perfection were our intentions with this car , and cost , well , lets not talk about that , as we have an insane amount in it , but he bought it new 41 years ago , and wanted it new again , so that is what he got , and my father and I have spent a lot of good quality time together doing it , so I would not have cared if it had costed more ... as for the horn pad insert , I will put a $100 bounty out on a nice new , or like new one to anyone that can lay their hands on one for me , a hood ornament in the same condition I will also make it well worth your while ... anyone that reads this , and has any leads , please by all means PM me , thanks to all !

My wheel was a p.o.s. grant when I got the car. I found an identical steering wheel in a country squire station wagon, 70-71 I believe. Other mercury's of the same period will have them as well.
