The hooker 6208s are a great header even though you to modify the body just a little,& they will support 600hp on a stroked 351w.

How much room is there between your passenger side header and the strut tower at the closest point? Does the engine torque over far enough to touch?

I threw the hookers into the trash and never looked back. Junk junk junk. Went with a set of Sanderson shortys that fit perfectly. Since the angle on the AFR heads is different than stock there was no room for the hookers at all. Let me also mention the difference in quality between the Sandersons and the hookers was day and night. I called Sanderson told them what I was doing and 3 days later had my headers. No fitment issues, no having to jack the engine up just slipped right in.

Hooker 6901 fit perfect on my car, no modifications at all.

I am guessing stock heads that let your hookers fit?

It seems no 2 sets of 6901's look exactly alike. I have AFR heads and my exhaust flanges partially blocked my exhaust ports on the sides, requiring a session with the die grinder. Another forum member has the same heads and his 6901's didn't require any modification. The other fitment issue with the Hookers is that they were designed for multiple chassis applications vs. being Maverick/Comet specific. That is why there are bends that seem unnecessary and other areas that afford little to no clearance.

I would assume the difference in heads are the height of the exhaust ports. I have never set a stock set of heads next to an aftermarket performance head.

Size-wise I doubt the AFRs are that much different than the Edelbrock RPMs I'm running with 6901s now. The only interference I had was with the steering linkage on the driver's' side hitting the bottom of one tube. After awhile it clearance itself. LOL

Years ago I had AFR 185s on my car but with an old set of Blackjack headers. Those puppies could go in from the top but they had very tight bends right off the header flange, couldn't be good. And it seems the Hookers weigh about 50% more, much heftier flanges and tubes.

Is there any issue with the AFR heads vs stock Ford heads when bolting on headers?

Perhaps. Read my personal issues with Hooker 6901's on multiple threads.

If you are using 165's or 185's, the only issues I am aware of is exhaust port alignment with the header flanges. Some people have issues, some don't. I had to open my header flanges up slightly on the sides. If you move up to the AFR 190's, the fitment may become an issue due to the fact that the exhaust ports are raised slightly. Again, this may not be a significant issue.

Tried the Sanderson website but couldn't find a reference to Mavs or Comets. Do you have the model number? Thanks.

Sanderson FF3GTS and FF6 apparently will fit 302's in smaller Ford's but no mention of the Maverick specifically. Might it been one of these?
