Would this exhaust pipe flow enough for my setup?

If he cared about that car, he wouldn't have sold it. I know people who will go to their graves before parting with their Mavericks. He obviously lost interest in it. No offense to him or anyone else, but from the numerous pics I saw, that car was really rough. In my opinion, its parts are of much better use on Mavericks/Comets in better condition.

In any case, he got his money for the car, and other owners are benefiting from the parts to restore their cars.

That bolded statement sure seems like a silly assumption when you consider all the reasons that people sell cars.. not to mention the sheer amount of time and cash that he had dumped into it. Life moved in a different direction for him and most guys that knew him will surely wish him the best. I admit that my response was coming from a bit of a shocked mindset but I do really despise people chopping up perfectly good cars to make money or fund their own projects. Part of my opinion is based off the regret felt just about every day of my life for selling my shaker scooped SCJ Torino even though at the time it seemed like the right thing to do. I was moving into hotrodding the EFI stuff and thought it was the right way to go for better funding that once delusional thought process. Life goes in stages for us all and many times comes full circle in an unanticipated manner. So, here I am working on the old stuff again.

And if that car is what you call "rough"?.. I'll kindly take a whole driveway full of them, thank you very much. That car WAS A SOLID BUILDER and paintwork is very easy compared to all the chassis and mechanical work that often needs to be done in the quest for more power.

Do this.. http://mmb.maverick.to/attachments/image-jpg.105525/ .. to a Mustang or Corvette(Chevelle or whatever) over on those forums and you will most definitely piss some people off just the same as the ones who haven't spoken up on this particular site. And also IMO, just because you bought and own something doesn't mean that it's ethically or morally right(from the perspective of those that actually give a damn about any particular marque) to chop it up for parts. Because by that mentality, I know where 2 relatively rough Dodge Challenger's are right now(one's even a '71 440/4spd car) that I could easily shell out the cash just for the sake of using my chop saw to fund my own selfish projects. Dunno, maybe I'm in the minority here, but I would feel terrible for destroying them when someone else will surely buy them(at least the 440 powered car) to restore and get back on the road.

But anywho.. you should know by now that I just say what I feel and mean no personal disrespect because we all know how opinions go.. everyone has one and you're certainly entitled to sit on yours just like the rest of us. Kinda moot and it's a done deal now.. life goes on for the remaining survivors. Plus, I used to practically live in the junkyards of Texas and Cali and there are FAR FAR more solid survivor cars being destroyed on a monthly basis. That level of sheer disrespect makes me far sadder than losing Scott's car ever will. Some peoples junk is another mans gold.. just a perspective thing and the way it's always been.. probably always will be.

oh.. and not that it's even relevant at this point.. but I thought of this thread when I came across this. Might help someone doing a local search here about pipe sizing.

What Calvin Elston builds for vintage road race Fords. 310ci, iron heads, low rise intake, ~595bhp, 8200rpm redline.

    http://www.elstonheaders.com/

"I would not be afraid at all of using 1.625 at all off an even larger port area. I do it all the time for Cobra Automotive and their nostalgia mustangs and cobras. 1.63@8" -1.75"@10, 2" secondary for 12-14", (not a typo) and a 2.25" choke at the final collector. 620hp no problem and all sorts of bottom end. Especially for such a small motor and road racing."

All feeding into a single 3" tailpipe. These engines are well beyond what the Factory did back in the day.

I fully expect you to say what you think and I'll never hate you for it. I understand how you "feel", but I totally disagree that it's morally wrong to cut up a car that YOU OWN. I love cars as much as you do, but I seriously doubt it would have been cut up and parted out if it was in as good condition as you think it was. I never saw the car in person, but I could tell just from the pictures that it didn't have a straight panel anywhere on it. The frame and suspension were all hacked up, he couldn't get the caster to adjust right, the interior was trashed (and green), and that's just from the top of my head. Now I know that car could have made an awesome, gutted-out race car, which is something I'd personally rather do than cut up a 2-door, unless it was all rusted out.

In any case, I respect your opinion; I just think a little bit too big of a deal was made out of it by you and Cruzin Illusion. I understand you're thinking of all that you could have done with that car, and I also understand the buyer's perspective on what he could do with it (by parting it out). I'm fine with it either way. Obviously I'm a Maverick/Comet fan, but let's be realistic; it wasn't a highly collectible, limited production muscle car that was parted out. It was a car that had a hard life, and its previous owner had a lot of fun with before losing interest and moving on with Life.

Just for your FYI...I couldn't "get the caster to adjust right" because the alignment guy literally didn't speak English. He initially aligned is as a stock maverick, then I finally convinced him to align is as a 78 mustang 2. But I could not get him to understand that I needed an extra 2 degrees of caster on top of that, even after calling
Blugene to talk to him and try to get him to explain it to him in Spanish.

There was not a damned thing wrong with that car other than that alignment, and a bit of pinion angle. And ugly paint. Otherwise, it was perfectly sound, and fast as hell. Dude cut it up for profit, but that is no longer my problem.

I am moving out of state, and did not want to drag that thing along with me.

And my wife and family have no idea what has happened to that car. They would be pissed if they found out it was cut up for parts.

By the way Larry, thanks for the compliments.

I really appreciate that, after sinking $10,000 and 10 years into that car.

You are a true car lover, and you know what it feels like to put your heart and soul (and credit card) in to a project car. Even if it didn't have a straight panel anywhere on it, yet.

And, for what it is worth, the guy next door to the alignment guy (Dayton Texas is a REALLY small town) didn't have 2-1/2" pipe and used 2-1/4" pipe from the X pipe back, and it actually INCREASED the torque! This thing didn't keep traction AT ALL and would spin the tires as long as I kept my foot on it.

So constricting the exhaust a bit actually helped a bunch.

Honestly, I am not sure why this old thread popped back up, and why it got so serious and emotional...

I was done playing with the car, and sold it. I hoped the the buyer had a heart in Mavericks and would finish it up, but later found out he was just going to cut it up for parts. It was a loss for both of us. Not a damned thing I can do about it now. I regret it, but not as much as if I kept it and sunk another 10k into it.

I thought it looked like a good car without alot of rust, you bring that up north and that would be a great car to restor, way better than I started with. By the way good job on kicking a guy when he's down.

I seriously think some people confuse the difference between a "true car lover".. with that of a "self serving car lover".

There is a very real difference between those two types of "car guys" and I myself have held up final sales many times through the years because someones intentions did not fit my ethical and moral requirements for the car being sold. I've even had those sellers have other people come back in their stead because I told them "no way in hell I would sell it to them" regardless of the profit margin being offered.

The word "unscrupulous" fits some guys to a tee and I know for a fact that I'm not the only one who feels this way. In fact, I have met MANY guys who would only sell to specific buyers even when they were being offered MORE money from other less desirable buyers with cruel and malicious intentions. And sometimes it's MUCH MORE money being offered. Odd as that passion may seem to some.. I would certainly call those guys "true car lovers".

Never kicked anyone who's down. If the car meant that much to him, he'd never have sold it because he "did not want to drag that thing along with" him, and "was done playing with the car, and sold it". He even stated that he didn't know why this thread got so serious and emotional.

I'm not kicking anyone, and I even said "no offense". I'll be damned if I'd put $10k into anything and then sell it, if it really meant a lot to me.

'Missed the part about the alignment shop not speaking English. That had to be frustrating. I stand corrected on that.

I for one absolutely hate what happened to this car. There are a couple of people on the site that buy and sell parts for profit. I understand that in this free country you can do that but I really thought that this site was more about the preservation of these cars. The biggest part of preserving these cars is not to cut up or part out cars that can be on the road or put back in the road with little effort.

The only way to stop these people is to stop paying their extremely high mark ups on prices. Who in their right mind would charge $800 to $1000 for a grabber hood.

I have bought items on this site that I later did not need and was more than Happy to pass those items on to others for the same price I paid just so I can help someone else get their car on the road.

I wish the community would up and ignore these members to hopefully push them off this site.

They know who they are and most people know as well. I watch Craigslist adds across the country and it's crazy that I will see the same items for sale on here for a large mark up. In my mind neither need to be here.

All's I can say is go ahead and call me out publicly and not in a PM so everyone can see the real hack that you are.

I agree with you about the ridiculously high mark-ups. I don't know who the people are that are currently using this site for that purpose, but I happen to know that such practice has been going on here for many years.

Just hate watching stuff being sold and then sold a month later for more. I just figure we are all on here to support each other and help other. I just hate seeing people get screwed over. The guy that bought this car paid $3000 and after he took and sold all the good parts he tried selling the roller for $2500.00. He took the posting down when I called him out. The worst part is he is a newby that bought a car for far less than advertised and now uses this place as his source of buying hacking and selling good cars.
