Maybe you should have to be a supporting member to sell parts and to be able to see the classified section.

With as much as some buy and sell you would think the supporting member fee would little to no issue.

I have bought parts from Duane before I ever joined this forum. He even delivered my parts personally to my Dad's place where I work on my car. He's not a bad guy.

Had I had any problems with any of his parts. Absolutely, but he either mad it right, or I made it work anyways.

As for buying and selling parts. Sorry but it's gonna happen. Not by me, but it will happen. It's part of life, and look at what this forum is. It's nothing but a collection of people working on all the same cars. A dream come true for a seller, instant market location at the click of a button. You can't possibly expect them to pass it up, but you can require it be done ethically.

    Just my 2 cents

I do like the idea of more members being supporting members and on 1st thought your idea seems appropriate. :thumbs2:

But we would never do this and here is why. Lets say someone from outside the Mav-Comet community finds some NOS parts for our cars and does a search online, looking for a place to get rid of them, and finds our forum. If they see that a "fee" is required to post them in the classifieds (ie-paid membership) they will most likely go elsewhere and we would lose a chance at getting these parts the person wants to sell. Parts are so limited for these cars I cannot see us making access to the classifieds limited to "paying members only"

you have to resell and buy parts in the old car collector hobby these cars are not made anymore to keep an old car alive you have to plain and simple I sold a 72 gas tank on here for fifty bucks but I also gave the guy two front fenders to get them out of my out building but if someone is asking 350.00 for a set of seat tracks on Ebay it sure makes the ones i sell for a fair price easier to sell because of the ''gougers'' price . I love it when i see those ridiculous prices because when i then sell the same part it makes it so much easier to sell at a fair price. I have to buy and sell parts if i had the money like ''ass monkey'' garage or those other fake shows on tv which also drives up the price my car would have been finished but my old car addiction is down my priority list anymore near the bottom a kid in college will do that . I am going to sell parts on ebay soon to finance the weather stripping and the other parts i need to finish my car it is the only way i can afford to finish it but if the price is high on what i need i will pay it the market dictates the price just like anything else for sale in the world and there isn't anything i can do about that.

I hate car flippers, but it's legal and there's nothing I can do about it. You see it on those TV shows. The owner is asking $10k. They offer him 5k and he takes it. Then they resell the car for 12k . Well, the buyer should have just sold the car for 12k and put the money in his own pocket , not help make the middle man even more rich.

And 'sorry, but Maverick hoods are not worth $800 or more, not even Grabber hoods. It's a damn hood for cryin'-out-loud.

With barriers or no incentives to make parts available for others, people simply will not bother to wade through junk yards and part cars out. Instead cars will rot in fields/back yards, end up in the junk yards and those Maverick/Comet specific parts will be recycled and gone forever. With less parts available on the market, restoring Mavericks/Comets will become a lot more difficult and expensive. Since Mavericks/Comets are not exactly sought after by collectors, more of them will be sent to the crusher instead of being restored. With less Mavericks/Comets on the road, I doubt there would be market for custom Maverick/Comet parts (e.g. carbon fiber hoods, etc) and retailers like Melvin’s/Auto Krafters offering Maverick/Comet parts.

Calling someone out for a fraudulent/misleading ad is the right thing to do. Voicing your opinion on price is not and will not be tolerated. What may seem expensive to you may in fact be a deal for someone else.

Some people will sell high while others will sell low. Bottom line is that the market dictates the price.

I like to fund projects by buying and selling things, it just adds to the fun. I low balled a guy on a rolled Bronco because I wanted the engine, gave him $300 and ended up with a few hundred over purchase price when all was done. One time I bought a beautiful front valance for my GTO because it was misrepresented on ebay, screaming deal I must say. Sold my original that was rough but not rusty for twice what I paid. I see nothing wrong with that, it keeps my projects moving forward. If I see a good deal and might be able to use it or make money on it, you can be sure I will pounce!

You just became a supporting member to write this thread. You your self have sold parts on here and weren't a supporter. While I supported the site on my first sale because I feel thankful that we have sites like this to help promote out vehicles. But trolls kill a site fast!!!!!!!
I have delt with Duane and had no issues and have bought from others with no issues.

It's not your place to be a parts TROLL and police everyone's sales. If you don't like the price someone ask then don't buy it. You have trolled several members threads on here posting your useless comments. If you can't be positive don't post at all. Maybe it is you that needs to find another Forum to troll???????

Thanks to everyone who makes this site AWESOME!!!!!!!!

This site is awesome and the saying goes '' Money talks bullcrap walks'' if you can't afford it don't buy it but what someone else does be it buying 5 valances at once selling a hood for a grand or any other transaction that is between the buyer and the seller and if both parties are happy it is no business of anyone's but the parties involved . Sites like this is what keeps people interested in old cars and that is what it is all about:banghead:

    My quick thoughts:

I make no apologies for the parts I sell. If I am going to take my time to completely dismantle a car, label all the parts, store them on shelves in buildings and warehouses....then I expect to be compensated at a fair market price agreed to by me and the buyer. For example....two weeks ago I drove 330 miles round trip to get a "parts car" so that it would not end up being crushed. In my opinion, it is a parts car. Could it be restored? Yes. Yesterday....I took an entire day of my time, drove over 300 miles roundtrip, and walked up and down every aisle of a swap meet to find parts for those that do not have the time to do this. I expect to be compensated. Why? Because if I am not...then I will stop doing it....as many others have before me.

If one buys a house, has it for ten years, then they expect to sell it for more money than what they paid for it. Market value says it has gone up in value.....but yet I don't hear anybody complaining about "gougers" then.

The boss (Stefan) has spoken so what do you say we just let this one die and move on to something more constructive and less harmful, summers all most here and we can go cruizing again. Gathering and Round Up are getting closer

I wanted to buy a 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO. Those greedy capitalist wanted $760,000 for it. How dare they. I offered my 1972 Comet GT and $10,000. They threw me out of the showroom. I don't understand!

I don't think anyone was complaining about what you do, Craig. I think the complaint was regarding people who use the Classifieds on this site to buy up Maverick parts and then re-sell them for a markup. Not illegal, but pretty crappy. It's good for the Maverick/Comet restoration hobby to do what you do. You have no doubt helped a lot of people in restoring their cars.
