Just got a response from Larry and thought I should post the info. " Mike, the easy way to get the lid of a old reservoir is just to break it and pull the pieces out of the lid,but the other way requires patience,if you look at the repo the two corners that face the front of the car have no bead on the lip,this is where to start.heat up the reservoir lid good with a hair dryer,on the corners mentioned position the corner of the lid on a sharp edge countertop and push down on the one mounting tab or if using the other corner pull down on reservoir making sure to keep the lid corner square on the counter,once a corner pops off just work the others.On the motor you can use a angled pick to "walk" the retaining star washer out (have a copy of instructions on torinocobra.com) motor pulls out.I would recommend replacing motor with new as they are common to late model trucks and are inexpensive,new motors will make sure seal is good as the old ones have the seal compressed. New motors come with new retainer but most will not have the factory alignment tab,just make sure the weep hole is positioned with the weep hole in the reservoir, remember PATIENCE. Once everything is in place the bottom screw is for resting the reservoir until the two uppers are just snug then the bottom is to be finger tight only. Overtightning may damage the reservoir. OR, the better way to do that is for the seller to INCLUDE THE TOP WITH THE RESERVOIR!!!!! If you are gonna repop something, then repop it, not half of it, how many reservoirs have the lid broken off and the fill grate area is busted? For $95 bucks, I would do without, this "hobby" has gotten out of control, crazy!!!
Followed the removal instructions and the top came off with no effort. And placed on the new box with even less effort. Nice...a repo part that fits like a glove, why can't all repo parts fit as good as this one. Really happy with the product.
That's awesome, Mike!! So glad it turned out. I'll be in touch later on so I can come and pick-up mine! There's no substitute for NEW, especially plastic and rubber parts. I hadn't realized just how yellowed ours are compared to what they SHOULD look like!
All things being equal, I would expect the re-pops to yellow as well, unless they have been produced from a state of the art plastic.
Oh, I have no doubt they will eventually yellow just like the originals did, but with the new ones, we're not starting with 45 year old plastic. It's like dash pads. Even if you can find a perfect one, it's 45 year old vinyl, and how much longer before IT cracks. I bought a perfect one and it didn't survive the shipping. I'll be putting a cap on mine once the car is done. And if people think $95 is high for a brand new washer jug, the last NOS one I looked at was $400. By the time I would get it to my house with the exchange rate, shipping and duty/taxes, it was approaching $800 Canadian! Rome wasn't built in a day, and I welcome ANY new parts for our cars...
Finally installed my Brand NEW reproduction washer fluid reservoir! I polished my lid, but I could use a slightly better one later on. Thanks to @BKelley for letting me know about this product, and being able to buy one via the supplier directly. Also a big thank you to @goldnrod for picking one up for me when he got his! A perfect fit and it looks exactly like the original (minus the ugly yellow plastic). These are currently available through Melvin's Classic Ford.
Go try and buy a new one for a new car and this price won't sound so bad. Everyone thinks parts are supposed to be free or something? This isn't the 60s anymore.
Hi,my name is Larry Hoffman and I made the washer reservoir,mainly because I am into torino's but love maverick's also but do not have one. Wanted to introduce myself and answer any questions or concerns and earn your trust as a vendor. Previous poster brought up a valid point that I have not considered but basically the cost of making a product and taking account of how many could be sold = price,with that being said I have a very long road to travel before any profit is reached,I am just a enthustist that enjoys making parts to the best of my ability and seeing the final product on a car is rewarding,especially when it makes your underhood pop. I have been in the hobby a long time and have a problem with repo parts that only look and fit o.k. at best,and I really do not like supporting China's economy, those two things really add to the cost also,I quess if a buyer's only complaint is the price I would say I am alright with that.I would love to make more parts but need support to do so. I also made a tool to heat seal a new screen to the washer reservoir lid I anyone is interested thanks Larry LTHLMH@EMBARQMAIL.COM
