A p.o. of the Comet thought it would be a good idea to use sandpaper on the textured metal doors. It was not a good idea. So, I am thinking about covering them in vinyl, and was just wondering if anyone had done this already, and if so were there pitfalls to avoid?
I would not cover with Vinyl. I have had to patch lower section of the doors and I am planning on going "Smooth" remove the texture. I plan on sanding, and filling with skim coat of body filler and paint gloss.
This reminded me of an article a while back when they did this exact treatment to an early Mustang. I think it will look great and should feel nice too. Here's the article: http://www.mustangandfords.com/how-to/interior-electrical/25938-vinyl-door-panels/
That looks pretty good. Now you need to do something with your door cards. I've been thinking about doing this will all my interior panels. Why have metal or plastic looking leather when you have have the real deal... "pleather". LOL... It should look more quality than the plastic, sound better, and feel better in my opinion.
