I bought new motor mounts to replace my current ones, as they have some slits and cracks in them. However When i took it out I discovered it was not aftermarket as I suspected it was (the PO did a motor swap), and the mounts are ford. I couldnt find any reputable motor mounts, so I got "Pronto" brand from rockauto. My question is, should i just leave the Ford mounts, or risk putting in the Pronto ones and have them fall apart in a few years (as I have heard aftermarket ones do)

    Thanks

If the current mounts have slits and cracks why would you leave them in? I've had replacement (aftermarket) motor mounts in my car, two sets have lasted 43 years. I doubt you'll have any problems.

Well I went to put them in, and the bolt holes are slightly off- terrible copy of the original. The ones I can get are all manufactured by the same company under different names, so they will all be mis-engineered. Lots of reviews of them crumbling after 1-3 years. suffice to say I put the FoMoCo ones back in. A shame they don't sell any quality ones for our cars anymore

If the replacements don't have safety anchors in them like the originals did, drill a hole through and put some 1/4-inch bolts through them with a Nylock on the other end, and to allow movement of the motor mount, don't tighten them down all the way.

Hey Larry, this is Larry, I have a 72 Comet that I put a rebuilt 94 5.0 roller engine in with a c4 and I have engine vibrations. Not bad but annoying and can't find it. Changed flex plate, new torque converter, new 50 oz harmonic balancer. Still there at 2,000 rpm and up. Thinking about changing out the motor mts that I put in with the new engine. I bought these from Auto Krafters. You mentioned safety anchors?? Any ideas?

The original mounts had safety anchors. If yours do not, you can make some, which would be a good idea.

Larry, you did use the right flex plate for the roller motor? How are your U-joints and output bushing on the tail shaft of the trans?

I too am disappointed with the current lack of good motor mounts. I tried some trick adjustable ones made for Mustangs and they do not fit. I'm looking at other options.
