My '76 has the spot for the light, but no bulb was in it. I know for a fact that it has never been apart as it is has been in the family since near new. Also, my Dad's '77 that he bought with low mileage has the spot for the light, but no bulb as well. I can't prove that it hasn't been apart - it's just LIKELY that it hasn't been apart. Hmmm.... :hmmm:

I'm still curious as to whether the light was active on EVERY '76-'77 or only some. I know all the clusters have the spot for the light, but not always the bulb. What's the real story on this. Anyone know?

I have seen the spot on the cluster. never seen one with the bulb installed. Pretty cool if you have one that still works.

Yes, but was the bulb installed on EVERY vehicle and everyone just took it out? Or was it only installed on some?

I am guessing the bulb was only installed if the rest of the "econ" package was installed??? I really don't know. All the engine vacuum stuff and wiring would also be needed to get the bulb to work. Probably find this in the Ford Service Manuals.

I’m looking at the engine of my car and I think I see the spot people are say the connection for the electrical wire should be at and I’m only seeing the vacuum hoses, no electrical connecter. the wire harness for my instrument panel doesn’t have a wire in the slot when I trace the printed circuit to the harness. As for a bulb in the original panel, idk because the original cluster panel was accidentally destroyed before I got the car. I’m just curious about the low fuel Econ icon on the dash, but I’m sure it and all of the parts to make it work came in a package you could get when it was new
