I am finishing up my CNC course and I may have an opportunity to run something through our CNC machines as a project. I can draw it up and machine it. Any ideas of something we need? I can't promise any quantity but more than 1 may be possible.

just for example... I had an idea for a 2 barrel carb adapter for six cylinder log heads. I had someone with access to a CNC plasma cutter try to cut mounting flanges for a Holley 2Bbl 2300 series carb. The idea was to cut a flange copied from a carb base gasket with steel thick enough to prevent warping when welding to a steel plenum-riser. The 1/8 inch thick test were cut ok but too thin to weld without warping, a 1/4 " plate wouldn't cut clean enough with his equipment.

    1/8 " test:

so the flange is needed to be 1/8 or 1/4? what's this adapter look like? because all I'm familiar with is one for a v8 that was like an inch thick

F2C43D98-2F66-422A-9EBC-A000AE986DD9.jpeg Do you have access to a 3D scanner that can import the file to autocad? If so you might want to look at making these.

... just trying to kick-start this discussion:

Yes the 2bbl flange needs to be thick enough not to warp - @1/4" minimum, preferably at least @ 3/8 - 1/2" thick like you mentioned.

    haev fun

How about the standard Grabber door emblems for an early model?

Isn't that what William posted? I want to make that but from what Im hearing the emblem has too much darkness in it for our program to pick up th features. That's the image method. I can import an image and work with it. We don't have a 3d scanner and i would have to have a physical copy to do it. Can we get a clear picture of it over a white background?

I need more info on that car adapter. What size bolts does that use? Isn't it 3/8. I need to know the width in the middle and total width and length. How far apart from center to center are the holes going each way?

that's just what I'm looking for but I was hoping to get it without the black paint. the program isn't going to pick up the dark features and I'm not sure as of now what you can do to what you have to fix it other than getting the whole thing that chrome

Unfortunately there isn’t an easy way to take off the paint. When I am at my buddies in a few weeks I’ll see if I can use a very light paint stripper.

How about using some white/light water color paint?
    Just a thought.

That willl only work if the paint doesn't thicken the features. So he would have to make sure they are really thin coats. But Then again with paint already on there I don't think that will work 100 percent

    think
The image he put up is the LDO door emblem, and I was referring to the standard door emblem. I'll put up a pic later when I can go out and get one.
