My Grabber came with a loose C4 transmission.. and upon close examination (after car was delivered) turns out it's a '66 C4 with 24 spline input and small lever top oriented shift and kickdown levers. Since my car will be restored to original configuration it will have the column shift linkage and I'm pretty sure these tiny levers are not gonna fly. Q1: Does anyone have photos of the column shift specific trans shift levers (the ones that bolt to the shift-shaft, not the column to trans rods)... Q2: is the shift shaft different for Maverick column shift levers vs floor shift? Q3: anyone want a '66 C4?
"Q2: is the shift shaft different for Maverick column shift levers vs floor shift?" yes... the shifter shaft for a floor shift points up.
I'm referring the the actual shaft itself that goes into the case.. seems i read somewhere once that the shaft end was different to accept a different lever but that just seems odd to me.
For most earlier Ford trans the lever is part of shaft. For a C4 Maverick I'll guess there are just the two, column & floor shift. When tossing in Full size, truck etc, length & angle possibly differ. Here's the setup for a '71 with floor shift. Outer lever is kickdown bolts on, inner shift lever that is welded to shaft. Column shift usually have crescent shaped neutral/safety switch mounted at base of steering column.
On a column shift the lockout/shift rod are the same rod and it attaches to the lever ear that points downward, like the picture Tom posted above. A floor shift car has a two eared lever. The bottom ear attaches to the lockout rod and the top ear is for the floor mount shifter rod. A most excellent write up here: http://mmb.maverick.to/resources/factory-auto-floor-shift-conversion-maverick-comet.100/
This is what the V-8 column shift linkage looks like if this is what you are asking. The pivot point is a stud that threads into the engine on that side.
Hi Craig, I'm referring to the shift lever and kickdown levers on shift shaft at trans. I have all the linkages for everything.
