Hey everyone: I've owned a 1970 Maverick since 2013, but this is my first post. It has been my daily driver for the last 9 years, my only car in fact, and has come with me to Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee. I took a 1000 mile trip with it a couple weeks ago. It has a 200 inline six original motor with 327,000 miles on it (with some rebuilds along the way). This post builds on what jmgford did previously. I actually bought his kit, but then added my own personal touch to it: http://mmb.maverick.to/threads/american-speedometer-tachometer-cluster.86991/ Looks like this forum doesn't allow .pptx files, so I uploaded all information to a Google Drive and I am providing a "view only" (with download privileges) link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1NdioN3aaRg3AWY6zP8CYy37lSkY_Ztyh?usp=sharing From jmgford's kit recommendation, I used a Bosch 7906 tach. That bolt pattern was necessary for me so that the OEM fuel gauge could stay where it was. Note that the tachometer is a free 360° needle; so the needle falls down when the car is off (20220611_085510.jpg), but it holds steady when the key is turned on (20220611_085517.jpg). I might add some sort of support later, but I don't mind it as is. The fuel gauge did have to be shifted up a little (by filing the back of the instrument cluster some), but the small lip in the base of it (see 20220502_175440.jpg) gives some clearance for the shaft (carbon fiber) that jmgford discusses in his kit for the needle offset. Additionally, there is still plenty of contact for the fuel gauge voltage signal (see 20220611_084635.jpg). Make sure to leave enough wiring for the tach to pull out the dash (20220611_085129.jpg and 20220611_085129.jpg). I used some Amazon connectors so that I can separate the whole instrument cluster from the car whenever I want. Dealer's choice on connector, I chose: https://www.amazon.com/Glarks-Connectors-Terminals-Assortment-Motorcycle/dp/B07DB7X9R9/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1HTCL9C9NTWTS&keywords=terminal+connectors+plastic&qid=1654953894&sprefix=terminal+connectors+plasti,aps,90&sr=8-3 The needle for the tach is a needle from an old speedometer , shortened using a grinding wheel from a Dremel tool (I used an old/new speedometer from ebay and just replaced the original one in my car). I chose to paint all the needles white. I used Testor's enamel paint, but in the future, when I redo the whole car, I will probably shave that off and used acrylic spray paint instead. The enamel paint looks to bulbous to me. Autokrafters does now sell the instrument cluster circuit, so I replaced that and the voltage regulator at the same time: https://www.autokrafters.com/p-2355...erick-1971-73-mercury-comet-d0dz-10k843a.aspx The primary information you may all be after, if you choose to implement this, is the decal. I made the decal in PowerPoint, transferred to Adobe Illustrator to rasterize it, and saved it as a .png to be sent to https://www.decals.com/. The .png is attached to this post (Maverick Decal_TextRasterized.png). Note that the decal is around $30 with shipping, so know what you are getting into before purchasing from decals.com. I purchased a 2.15" transfer cut. However, if I replace it in the future, I may obtain a 2.17" transfer cut, or something like that, so that the original instrument cluster ring is completely covered. Hope this helps someone. Enjoy!
I love it! I was looking for a tachometer decal template to use to do somthing similar. Thank you for sharing
