I know the right answer is to cut this section out and weld in a new panel but has anyone ever brought back some like this to life with fiber glass and bondo?

I just want to get it looking good enough to get my collector plates and then look for a long term solution. I presently don’t have the Mig welding skills to fix this and no budget to have a pro do it.

This is the leading edge of the rear quarter panel. The mandrel of a grinding wheel shows it’s holed through. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. MD

To far gone. Best to learn and replace it.

Any filler will work for a couple years but then the rust will return there and bubble up under your new paint. Patch panel is the only way to go for long time good looks.

For a temporary patch I would try using some all metal filler. It is waterproof finishes nicer than fiberglass. When done use some rustproofing on back side. For a fair weather car you should get a few years out of it.

Anything outside of welding will be a temporary fix. How temporary....only time will tell.

Thanks everyone. I’ve decided to carry with a fibreglass, Bondo solution for now. I have no plans to paint the entire car so I’ll leave the welding to another day. I’ll be recording events in my garage posting if anyone is interested. Thanks again. MD
