Ordering my new springs tomarrow. I measured the u-bolts. Here's what I came up with. 2 3/4" inside (dia of axel tube) 5 3/4" long(from end of threads to inside of the U. 7/16" dia. fine thread. I have about 5/8" thread sticking out of the bottom of the nuts on the u-bolts. That should still be long enough to add a leaf right? I have 3 leaves now, going to order the 4 leaves. Do all of these numbers sound right? Thanks. Russ

I just ordered U-Bolts from Espo springs along with my leaf springs. What they sent worked just fine for the 4-leafs.

Well I had my wife TRY to order them for me today, and they told her that they only had specs. up to 73(mine's a 74) for the U-bolts I can't see where there would be any differance from 71 to 77 but I went out and measured just to be sure. I guess I should have called my self. Craig, how long did it take you to recieve you order after you placed it? Thanks Russ

Ordered my U-bolts from ESPO as well. They already know which ones you need. Just tell them it's for a Maverick. They are the exact same size as the originals. There's no difference from '71-'77...

I just replaced my 7.5 4 lug with at 8" 5 lug out of a 74 maverick. Same size U-bolts and everything. I wanted new ones in a hurry tho so I went to all parts stores. after getting told they don't have them i found a older guy and he looked them up and found 2 that they had in stock.

    russ,
we have a place in town that makes u-bolts...they take a straight rod that is threaded on both ends and bend it to what ever size you want...i was checking out my options when i did my 4 leaf swap... found out the stock bolts would work...frank...:bouncy:

Thanks for the replies. I had my wife call them today with the measurements I gave her. They said I could get everything in 7 to 10 days :)

That's cool that you found what you need, but you really shouldn't have to provide measurments...

When I got my u-bolts from Espo they were slightly smaller in diameter than the originals. I even told them on the phone exactly what I needed. Anyone else have that problem?

    Russ

Please give us a full report as to:

    Where you got the springs
    How many leafs
How it sits once installed, stance, rake, etc.

    Pictures too please!!

I am needing new springs on the 74, .....and I need to know what others have used. Sure...I have new springs on the 72....but it is hard to tell anything since the car is still stripped.

I bought 4 leafs from ESPO. I placed the order on Tuesday, and they were on my deck Friday afternoon. I started Friday around 5 pm and they were installed finger tight at 8 pm. I finished tightening everything this morning. Took it for a ride and it made a big improvement over the worn out 3 leafs(I used 4 leafs). I am disapointed in the ride height though. It may have raised the rear of the car 1". I was hopeing to get at least 2" of lift going with the 4 leafs. I didn't take any floor to wheel well measurements before I started, but I put a 2' level on the body trim on the door before I started, and I had to raise tail the end of it 1/2" to get the level to read level. After installing the springs, I still need to raise the back of the level 1/4" to make it read level. So it still sits alittle nose high. Over all I'm happy with the service from ESPO, but I guess I sould have asked to have the springs bent with a little more lift. O'well c'est la vie Russ
