Silly question here.. I have always dropped the engine and trannt in seperate or I have never had them both out at the same time. Well, they are both out and I am planning on installing them as a unit. Do all the lining up on the comfort of my garage flooor! Here is the stupid question part... Where do you attach the hoisting chain when you do this? I have always used the holes in the front of the heads. Will my new Edelbrocks support them engine and tranny? (aluminum heads) This is probably a silly question but...

I use the exhaust manifold bolt holes with a grade 8 bolt on each side ... Here is my engine/tranny going in last year ... I'll be using the same method in a few days for the install of the new engine ... Not sure what aluminum heads will do ...

I used an engine plate with the hoist connect to the rearmost hole. I was worried about the aluminum intake and picking up the motor by the 4 carb studs, but the shop said it would not be a problem. I'd imagine the holes in the head should be fine, but seeing as how I've never used them... :)

i put mine in as one unit. fairly easy. used one acessory bolt hole on left front, one on right rear (or vicea versa) and the aid of an engine leveler. but i do have iron heads. I think aluminimum would take it:2cents: . the leveler made it SO easy.

The engine leveler is a huge help.

Used a engine hoist plate on top an aluminum air gap intake with aluminum heads. I too worried about the 4 carb studs and the intake that had the gap from the lifter gallery. I e-mailed Edelbrock to make sure before I lifted the assembly.

    the engine leveler is great.
I personally think its a lot easier to pull/install both at the same time...especially if you are doing it by yourself.

i have a set of plates i bought years ago that bolt along the exhaust bolts which you can put in the center or in the back two. so you can use them for just the engine or for the full assembly. dont know if you can still buy them or not. Maybe if someone is interested in a set i can go talk to a friend of mine that has a water jet cutting table and have some made. he makes all the engine plates for Jegs.

    Engine leveler

I bought one of these horizontal jack screw levelers, like the one in Aeon 71Mavericks picture above, at Harbor Freight Tools (a chain store) a few weeks ago for $20 on sale. It should be available at any cheap tool outlet that has the usual Chinese tool assortment.

ouch...that chain is prying up on your rockers....that not good.....unless the pic is deceiving me....

i have always used the lifting plate on the intake.....and thats aluminum....just make sure you use steel bolts.....put the hook through the loop on the engine hoist plate that bolts onto the carb area....and it works great
