A couple of weeks ago in a gamblers race I spun a bearing and broke the crankshaft in the Plum...it snapped in two at the first main journal and took out the oil pump...amazingly it didn't break any rods or crack the block as this happened on the BIG end..a testament to how strong an SVO block and Carr rod bolts and Lentz rods are.
Anywho...the blocks been machined and checked...new internals should be here tomorrow and we start putting it back together...heads have been sent off to a Trick Flow head guru for flow testing and machining for more flow.
I'm trying my best to have it back together for Kentucky...the ultimate goal is for the car to run 5.40-5.50 on motor and take a 200 hp shot of the juice with no problems.;)

Sometimes, you have to get down before you can get up. Sounds like Plum Crazy is going to be Violaceously Insane.

Todd that's the million dollar question...I noticed no loss in oil pressure...the prior 2 passes I noticed a vibration on the big end I had never felt before...initially I thought the pumped locked up, broke and got into the crank but there was so much bearing material in the oil pan it was probably what locked the pump up. We are going thru the whole drivetrain to see if we can find a cause.

Sorry to hear about the PLUM Rick. I use to have a Mustang Cobra with a 302.....To make a long story short, The valve seals locked up the oil pump and broke the pump. Luckily the motor was just at idle. It doesn't take much to lock up a oil pump.

Yeah, glad it didn't mess you up too bad.
Sounds like it is going back with a little more
    power on the next build.

Are you sticking around up north for the
    MCCI Nationals, Rick?

i locked up the oil pump earlier this year. seems either i cracked the crank or it was already like that and they found it when i sent it to the shop. just got the crank back friday night. not going to try to fix it til i come bock from the gathering and roundup. we got rained out in tucson fri. night so i've got 5 straight weeks of racing coming up. hope it all holds together. :)

well good luck. Sometimes cranks can just break like that. I've had it happen myself...in the burnout box at about 6500. Was doing just peachy and a slight vibration followed by a loud cracking noise...and then it was running on 4 cylinders (the front 4). All this happened in about 1/4 second so I didn't have time to get off the throttle. I'd suspect that vibration you were feeling was a broken crankshaft, which can and will starve a rod journal (or sometimes a main) for oil...which usually smokes the journal and spins or stacks the bearing halves. 'Course then ya got stuff in the pan, sucks it up into the pump and locks it tighther than a...well...nevermind. You're lucky! Usually when a crank breaks, it takes out a few rods, block, pistons, pan, cover, timing set, and all sorts of neat stuff.
