If I already have an 8 inch, 5 lug rear end in my car, what advantage would there be to go to a 9 inch one? I have no desire to race the car, just want a nice, go quick, cruiser. The driveshafts on my Cougars and Mustangs with the 9 inch are much bigger than my Maverick with the 8 inch. Would I need a larger driveshft, too? How many horsepower will an 8 inch support? Jim
auto no trans brake ...the 8" will be fine ...i put new gears and a Auburn pro series differential...so far so good.....with 9'' they soak up more Hp then the 8" a drop in power to the rear wheels
The only advantage is that the 9" will rust out from under the car before you ever break anything. The eight inch will hold up fine.
