Falcon!... they got pretty "maculine" in later years... but the older they are, the more "rounded" they were around the edges.

And methinks the Cougar was always a more masculine, aggressive looking car although most of the time I saw a woman behind the wheel (my mum had two).

I think the old Minis are TOO SMALL and UNSAFE. They're cute to look at but on North American roads it's like driving a go kart.

Had a friend many years ago put a small block chevy:huh: into a Celica like that. Made a great little car. Had a 4 speed and a 8" Ford rear, so it was reliable and quick. I like the older Celicas, but the new ones, I'm not too sure about.

How can you compare a proper mini to a Maverick?! I've had 2 (well I am a Brit!) and loved them both. They aren't far off driving a go-kart, handle incredibly well and only weigh just over half a tonne (whatever that is in yank numbers :))

Probably not overly safe but there were hundreds of thousands over here and my old man had 5 of them, crashed a couple badly but still here with no ill effects :biglaugh:

    Love the mini!!!

Bet he never crashed one into a full-sized pickup, Suburban, Expedition or Hummer... That's about 2/3 of the vehicles on the road around here. Little cars are OK in Europe because everybody's driving them, but I'd be horrified of driving a Mini, or any number of older European cars in the southern US. It's scary enough in the Maverick.

Are you kiddin me. Ever tried driving on a motorway in the UK. They have more big trucks than we do pick ups. Its madness at best and makes our freeways look timid. The Minis are in just as much danger over there as here. Are they safe? Not likely. Us Brits are just nuts. :yup:

They can be a bit pricey but my mom had one and she loved it...

You can find little kit T-birds every once and a while though...

And I second that Mustang II and Cougar statements...

As for the old Mini...it's the only car I know that can do this...

So if you're stealing gold in Turin Italy, get a Mini, but idk about how well it would stand up in a crash...

Lol he did crash one head first into a Volvo estate as he jumped over a hump back bridge, they're pretty heavy :biglaugh: You're right there are more heavy cars in the US but the roads aren't as congested, and you'd do well to walk away from crashing into an artic on the motorway. Dont forget most people are doing 70mph+ here, always found that a bit strange how your speed limits are generally lower when everything is spread out more!

    Girfriend wants

Capri's and Celica's which I think has kind of a late 60's Mustang look are okay but I'm all for a Pinto or a Mustang II. I think I'd trade my Maverick for a V-8 Pinto or Mustang II.

Those Little Celicas are sweet!! Next project car perhaps - make myself a mini-Challenger. ;)

I don't find too much overly "masculine" about our cars (sorry guys). Of course, I don't find them feminine either. I'll admit it: it's the googley-eyed headlights. They're too, er, googly to scream Muscle Car. If you're talking masculine in the sense of what's under the hood (or can be put there) I still think it goes both ways. You can go from a wimpy stock 170ci to a bored out and stroked big block.

Personally, I love 'em. You can do just about anything you want with them: make them mean or gentle as baby ducks. With a few updated safety features they're still reliable today and, best yet, in some states you don't have to smog the early models.

But, gah. Those Celicas. If she wants muscle looks but smaller and not as "mean" then that looks awesome. I'd also second the Datsun/Nissan Z cars - they have more the sport car vibe vs muscle car, and there's a big community online for those as well. That was the direction I wanted to go this time around but settled instead on my two Mavericks.

Old Celicas rock, with an engine swap especially. I loved mine and would love to have another. My only complaint is the same problem I have with MG's: they're fun to drive but they can't get out of their own way. Mustang II though, gets no love from me... There's something about the roofline and the quarter windows that just can't be fixed. Certain Pintos and Vegas suffer from the same problem. I can appreciate the cars otherwise but you know a relationship can never work out if there's just no physical attraction.

Depends on where you are, really. I could never live in a state where the speed limit is less than 70. And really, between Memphis and central Mississippi where I tend to haunt, we all pretty much flaunt our contempt of the speed limit provided the cops aren't watching. I don't think I'd do well in the UK either with all the congestion, if it's as bad as what gets shown on the ol' telly. Sometimes when I come home from work I will happily double the distance of my route just to avoid sitting in traffic.

the thing i don't like about the MII is the front, those headlight and grill...they just don't have a good appeal to the eye...at least my eye.
