Thanks for all the help so far on small things with my Maverick. Really appreciate it. Question on the brakes. Mine has drums all the way around. Stops ok, but does take a longer distance to stop than most other vehicles I have owned. Is this normal for a car with drum brakes? I've bled them and there is no air in them at all. Just usually feels like it is when you pump them up during the bleeding process, but right from the get go. Plus like I said it takes alot more distance to stop then I'm used to. Haven't pulled the drums off to see if the shoes need replaced yet either.
I think you answered your own ? Pull the drums check shoes & adjustments but drum brakes are not the fastest @ stoppping. If it were me I would put on manual disc on the front, cheapest way to get more stopping power. Good Luck!
It's a 36 year old car, brakes have come along way. Drums are drums, that's why you don't see them on the fronts any more.
That's what I was thinking. Is changing over to disc on the front a difficult and/or expensive process? Thanks for the advice too.
It's not difficult, if you already can work on cars. Parts can be a challenge, but not impossible. Have a look at this, it'll answer any question you'll have: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=35957
Thanks Dave. I appreciate it. Looks like I'll have a LOT of looking to do!! Finding the parts I mean. May just have to redo these for the time being until I can find either 75 Mav or Granada somewhere. Thanks
Post here in the wanted section, I'm sure there is at least 2 guys that will have the parts right now.
