Had a little time today to go to the shop and work on the Mav. My 9 year old son ask if he could come with me, I said of course you can :bananaman. So off we went to the shop. I had to get the ladder bar mounts welded on the new rear end so he was helping me do some measuring and holding things for me. I tacked all the mounts in place and we took out the rear end to weld it up. As we were taking out the rear end he ask if I could teach him to weld. I figured why not, this would be the time to start teaching him to weld. So in between welding up the mounts on the rear end while I was letting it cool a bit he got some scrap rounded up so he could weld it together. I talked him through it for about 10 min and he said he was ready to try. he did a very good job, I think I have a prodigy starting here. I have attached a few pics of the job he did below. With a little more practice he will be very good. I love it when they actually listen to what you are trying to teach them.
Just thought I would share the time today with my son. I am so proud of him.

Is it wrong that your 9 year old welds better than I do?!?

Those are gud looking welds for a first timer of any age. I think the kids catch on faster if they are interest in something than any adult, better vision, concentration and all the other attributes that go along w/ youth. I took a 16wk welding course abt 10 years ago and those welds are as gud or better than a some of mine.
With some practice he looks to be a natural -- I hope he gets more stick time in B4 he really gets interested in girls. :biglaugh:
