Does any one know How or if I can get another title... I live in Illinios, but the title I had was from Michigan and had a date of 2003 on it?? I have a photo copy of the title but can not find the original.. I never registered the car in my name either!!!!!!??? Any help on this??? Thanks again Eric
Makes it tough when you never registered it. It's very easy to get a replacement. Can you contact the previous owner and offer him a fee to get a replacement?
Ouch,Thats rough. In Ohio,if you lose a title without it being in your name, alot of times,...you have a nice parts car.Hopefully you can locate the previous owner.Alot of dmv's are different state to state, but what you can do is,send a request to the previous owner,by regestered mail, stating you need a replacement title. If he's no longer there,it'll come back to you with a return to sender stamp on the envelope.Take that letter to your local dmv, fillout a bunch of forms, and within 30 days or so you should get a title,in your name, mailed to you.(As long as the history of the car checks out)Good Luck
yeah, first thing i do to any car worth keeping together is i get it in my name just in case something like this happens.....but good luck and hope it works out for the best
In PA., as long as you have the make, model, VIN and the exact name it is registered in, you can fill out a form with a notary and pay PA. 22.00, then a state representive takes it to Harriburg for you (gives them something to do). Then a duplicate title comes back to you.
that's only for an in-state title, correct? cause in Ky you can go thru a simular process as long as it's titled in this state, if it's out of state they tell u "good luck" lol
Yeah, that sounds like your best bet. Make sure and offer him some money for his time and effort, usually $50.00-$100.oo. He will need to go to his local DMV and tell them he needs to fill out a lost title application (yes it is actually called that), as only the actual owner of the vehicle can fill it out. He then will have to wait for it to arrive at his home. He will then need to take the title to a notary public and have his signature notarized as the vehicles seller, then mail it back to you. I know each state varies in it's title process, but it should be virtually the same as I stated above. I did this same procedure once, but had the title mailed back to my address, but the owner was local, so that won't apply to you. If the car was already in your name, you could just do that yourself.
As long as there is no issue with the sale of the car or previous owner staking claim you can contact many title company's listed on the internet or hemmings and they will for a fee of usually 200.00 buck get you your title does not matter what state your in they do all 50 states I have done this more than a 1/2 dozen times over the years good luck.
No more guessing, this will answer your question: http://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,1607,7-127-1585_1587_1588-76317--,00.html Plus there is a link to replacing a lost title, upper right corner.
Yes, that will work, but either way, the owner of the title must be involved in the process. ericglo won't be able to do it without the owner.
I've used this service with one of my Mavs. Worked great! http://www.its-titles.com/lost_title_for_car.html
