Hey guys and gals...Sorry if this has been tossed around before, but I couldn't find it when I searched for it.

I just purchased some door arm rests...Which are in awesome shape!!!......too bad the color isn't what I have in mind. My question is...Should I have them painted or is there a dye that would work? They are almost red and I'm going with either black or orange.

    Thanks for the help!

SEM dyes for vinyl - I also have had decent results with liquid dyes from JC Whitney. I have also used the Krylon vinyl sprays with decent success. Overall SEM products is always my 1st choice.

One thing to remember when dying used vinyl is to clean it 3 times and then once more just for giggles and good luck. Use whatever cleaner is recommended by your choice of dye brands.

Being an item that will have plenty of contact with skin...I was thinking of dying!

Sorry for asking, but is SEM a brand name?? And if so where do you purchase them??......Thank you

Use something like Dawn dish soap to remove all the oils from the vinyl, just straight soap not one with the hand conditioners or anything in it. Ive used the Vinyl and fabric paint by Duplicolor that you can get from the parts stores. Its worked pretty good, but can eventually see the spots where it gets rubbed alot. Pretty easy to touch up later. But Ive seen alot of good reviews for the SEM stuff if you arent in a hurry and can order it.

SEM brand materials can be purchased at auto body supply shops. If you have difficulty finding the product, let me know, my local shop carries a wide variety of SEM dyes.

I might add that I have used SEM dyes on both vinyl and primered metal, and in both cases have had EXCELLENT results. The word "dye" is somewhat misleading - trust me, it's very, very good stuff.
