i have a 1976 Ford Maverick 2dr Base model with the stock striaght six still in it. i am wondering if anyone has ever heard or got a nice noise out of them? i understand if i put a muffler on it for a v8 its still not gunna sound like a v8 haha but i just want something that will give it a nice quiet rumble or a little deeper sound. the muffler is right at the end of the car after the axle. Any suggestions?? thanks:thumbs2:

I saw one at a show once with a 250 in it. The guy put in a y pipe and ran duel exhaust. It sounded pretty good for a 6 banger.

Dang Bro...IMO Id go with a header but not just the regular I 6 header, I use something like a tri Y, then a Y then an H pipe and go from there. The mufflers would need to be rather large or an oval . Thats a tuff one. Most of the I6s Ive heard sound like electric 20MM Gattling Guns. Kinda like a Fearocious Popcorn Fart from my gramma. But they make some good HP. LOL I call Gene Fiores I6 Mav the "Bushmaster" after Dyno Day. The Bushmaster is a Rotary Gattling Breech Gun I worked on back in the day, designed to chew up armor plate on HI-35 Gunships. :bananaman

Just unbolt the muffler and keep the stock piping like I did with my 69.5 LOL

An open pipe 6 sounds horrible lol
    been there done that!

I've tested about 8 mufflers and the best sounding one was the cherrybomb Turbo II
and it's easy on the wallet!

I have videos on youtube just search up acmav289

2.5" pipe, y into dual glasspacks (the shortest you can get), run out the sides before the rear wheel. My 250 could pass as a 302 at idle and especially driving. Not the buzzing or bumble bee sound most sixes like to make with single glasspacks that run to the rear bumper.

...or just cut your pipe middle way of the car and remove everything from the back and on :biglaugh:, that'll disturb the peace.

Jamie Miles has the best sounding 250 I've ever heard. Not sure what mufflers it's running, but it "y"s into duals out the back. He had a UTube video of it posted on here a while back. Might PM him for details, he's not on here much anymore.

I ran a single glass pack at the rear of the 73, sounds like crap.

Looking for a good replacement, also.

I've heard 6's with glasspacks and that's not the sound I want to hear all the time. I bought a Thrush Turbo ($23 at Advanced Auto after online discount code) and a 68 Mustang tailpipe. It's going on next week.

From what I have read your going to have to modify the 68 to fit. I would love more information on what modifications are needed to do it myself.

Would love to hear a audio clip of it once its running, never heard a thrush turbo before.

There was a thread on here (I can't find it now) where someone installed a Mustang dual exhaust kit on a Maverick with no problems. If that worked, single should also work. If not I have a MIG welder and a big hammer.
