I was looking for a car that had to be a Ford, had to be old, and had to be somewhat cheap. Plus I instantly fell in love once I saw the Grabber hood.
I was looking for my first car. I was saving up my pennies from all my lawn mowing jobs and bought my 77' when I turned 15 for $1300. I had no idea what I was getting when I was browsing the auto ad in the newspaper and I asked my dad about them. He approved of them highly and we went and saw it. It had 56k original miles complete with all the packages and everything was cherry on it. It was driven back and forth to the supermarket and home. I was sold. I still have it today and never getting rid of it.
Wanted a muscle car. Never heard of it (something different). Once I saw I liked the fastback look. Very light compared to other old cars. Planned to throw in a 460 from a truck my dad never used, never happened because of shock towers. Got it for a good price.
man smart guy here when I was 15 I wasnt thinking about saving my money for a car. I was too busy spending every cent I got as fast as I got it on the new girl of the week cool stories guys now lets hear everyone elses story include pics of your cars
My wife got it for me for our 20th wedding anniversary as a surprise. We have a 1970 Mach 1 and a 1970 Cougar Eliminator so she thought the 1970 maverick would be nice to have also.
Layne, Are you bringing your Eliminator to the Spring Daytona show. The SSCC has a show within the show there on March 22-24th. Should be 30+ Cougars, several Eliminators. Look forward to seeing you there. Jim
I wish i could but the eliminator needs to be restored. Its a 100% complete car with power sun roof, AC and a 351 cleveland. I need to finish the maverick first. I am getting close to paint on it so it should not be much longer and I can start a different project. I would like to come over to the show though. Were is it held at?
I saw an ad for one on Craigslist and asked my mom what it was (I had never heard of a Maverick before). She said it was one of her favorites so I checked it out and there we have it.
If it is a factory sun roof car, it may be a Hertz-Rent-a-Car, one of 100. One of our members has a yellow one. It will probably be there. The event is held in the inside of the Daytona track where they hold the Daytona 500. We will be in special parking next to the clubhouse. They let us use the clubhouse for our annual meeting at 3 pm. Come join us. General admission is only $10. I will be there in a Dk Met Aqua '69 XR7 conv or the black htp. Jim
When I first thought about buying an old car, I asked people what would they buy? The first answer was a mustang and the second one was a vw karmann. so then I knew that I wouldn't buy any of those cars so, my first choice was a GTO, but those are incredibly rare around here, next it was a 68-69 barracuda. But suddenly a friend of mine showed me his maverick, silver painted with white racing stripes and chromed 17" torq thrusts. I was amazed at how good it looked! He had another one, a parts car, so I offered him to buy it which he refused at first but after a few beers it was mine! Long story short, I started to restore it very slowly, after a while I saw another one in a more advanced state of restoration, so when I said that I was going to buy it, my then fiancee (now wife) bought it and gave it to me as a wedding gift, and I resold the old one to my friend who wanted it back when he saw that it was becoming a very nice car.
