I have a gear drive in my sprint...Its a pete jackson setup with the idlers...It is not loud at all. It has straight cut gears too, soo...It should be incredibly noisey, but...It really isnt. They do make your timeing dead nuts though. Not a bad idea if you are planning to run a power adder and or healthy valve springs and a big fat cam.

I've also run a few on various engines through the years and that's been my experience as well.

From all that I've seen who use them.. if you really run the car hard.. a gear drive will keep things tighter for much longer than any chain ever will. Like everything though.. they do wear out eventually. And some are notoriously louder than others.

I was told by a certain cam grinder that gear drives introduce really bad harmonics into the valvetrain and was strongly advised to NOT use one.

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We do everything we can to get all the harmonics out of our engines to make them run better. Balancing, having the block blueprinted back to factory specs as far as even deck height, cylinders bored to stock locations 90 degrees to the crank etc.... Then to put a gear drive in it and put them right back in.................... sounds silly to me. If you are worried about positive timing then don't spend $40 on a timing chain. Get a billet geared true roller setup that will last just as long as the gears do.

I'm keeping the 200. So I guess I can't use one anyway. I'm getting custom made Falcon Six badges for the car. I like that engine.

    You'd like a V-8 even more.

I have a 5.0 on an engine stand. I've been hitting up car shows lately. Everybody has an 8. Almost no one has an even mildly built i6.
