Well, I think the trunk area is 90% complete. Wiring of the N20
bottle warmer, adding a check-valve to the fuel cell vent line, and
running a ground wire to the fuel cap are the main things remaining.

I want to do a few more minor cosmetic changes also.

A 'during' picture I found. To see a 'before' picture, go look at your trunk and imagine something much worse.

Thanks, it's definetly a labor of love.

It's taking me longer to put it together than I'd like. The heat in the garage is almost unbearable (~120+ degrees). I have a "Porta-Cool" now that helps out some.

The main constraint is the lack of funds (anyone want to buy 1-5/8" long tube headers??? :D).

I'll get there! I've spent too much money to get it to where it is now!

'Back at it again today (what are the odds a blue-northern will make it's way through Houston, TX today????)

BTW, the normal saying here in H'Town is, "It's not the heat - it's the humidity". I've modified it to, "It's not the heat - it's the stupidity!"

LOL. I hear ya. Today, its something like 89% humidity. Those west coast people sure do get it easy. Yea, they get heat, but with no humidity, you could find a tree to be under and your cooled off. Boy I wish it would just go away already. I like the winter!

Rick, your work is topnotch. You have attention to detail. I too cannot deal with the heat and usually confine my car building to the cooler months. Since 1997 I have restored 3 cars and painted an additional 5, which has forced me to work thru the summer months. The heat and humidity adds to my frustration level when things are not going as planned. When I get to that stage I always say to myself, " if it was easy everyone would be doing it" and everyone is NOT doing it. I have 2 window A/C units that I am too lazy to install in my garage. I am actually going to install them this winter, then i can macarena like Craig:D in the heat of the summer if I want!;)

    Lookin' Goood!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, any chance it will be ready for the September 13th meet in Waco?

You've been busy on your Maverick!!! Expecially when it's been so hot!!

[I still wonder why anyone in their right mind would live in Texas]!

    Hey Doug,

I don't know about the September 13th meet or not.

I guess it depends on whether or not I win the LOTTO !

Actually, all the 'spensive' stuff is taken care of (the last being $800+ worth of headers, header spacers, gaskets, header bolts, etc). And I don't even have the 3" exhaust $tarted yet (from the headers back - turn downs at rear end).

I refuse to run the Maverick down the track with open headers. I'd rather let the car sit than drive it down the track with open headers. Just a pet peeve of mine, I guess. There's nothing more annoying to me than to hear a LOUD car going down the track only to cross the 1/8th mile traps at 80 mph with a 8.XXX elapsed time. (See how much faith I have in how fast I think my car is going to be??)

I'll be running the (more efficient) Borla's or the (ever-pleasing sound of) 2 chamber - 3" Flow Masters when it finally makes it to the track.

The next obstacle is the radiator. Thanks to Ivy's experience and help, I think I have a good plan of attack on that aspect (the small radiator isn't going to work on my stroker - it needs PLENTY of volume). I'll be cutting the radiator support out tomorrow and fabricating one that will allow the use of my larger radiator (from my '90 Mustang). An added by-product is the fact that the engine and tranny can BOTH be removed and installed as one entity (Thank you, Thank you, Ivy!)

Thanks again guys. More pics to come as sluggish advancements in the heat and income are made.

    Rick

    www.summitracing.com for $96.95 + shipping

    From Summit's description:

"When you stuff your battery in a Moroso sealed battery box, you can locate it just about anywhere you want on your vehicle and not worry about water, dirt, dust, etc. ruining it. Accepted by the NHRA and IHRA, the tough polyethylene box has an airtight lid with a foam gasket to keep battery gasses from entering you car's interior (six quick-release fasteners keep the lid on tight). The box comes with a vent tube, battery hold-down with 3/8 in. steel rods, rubber cable clamps and grommets, and mounting hardware"

They have aluminum ones for $20 more - I just prefrered the polyethylene at the time (I'd get aluminum if I were to buy it today).

For a complet list of their battery boxes, see

I just noticed they don't have the quick-release locks anymore. They're using nuts & bolts instead.

I prefer to have the quick release (like the suit-case latch type used on the Al ones).

Yea get this. We just got done redoing our garage floor with that garage floor 2 part epoxy stuff, and were gonna be painting the walls pretty soon too. Turns out our garage is kinda big without all the garbage and crap in it. anyway, when we get the central air, were putting our a/c out there and a heater! Year round temp control! Only in America!
