Ok so far everything I have read indicated that a 200 should swap with a 170 no problems. I called around junk yards looking for a 200 and had one guy tell me that I would have to change out all sorts of stuff including the bell housing. The car we have has the 170 in it but it runs crappy so we are gonna try and find a 200 and get it rebuilt and in running order before we install it since we still drive the car on a daily basis. I ordered some books on the old ford 6's and am trying to research this. Anyone know first hand what if anything needs changed when I try putting in the 200?

As long as you get it from a Maverick or Comet, it will bolt right in. The early mustang ones use a different bell housing.

Hey Newguy, I have a 200 that has only 37,000 miles on that I will be pulling out of my car this winter. I am not sure when you are wanting it but if I can help let me know. It will also come with the tranny. This car was owned by an older lady down in Georgia and when I got it only had 28,000miles on it. I drive the car to every show that I go to. It made a trip to SpringField MO and then up to Kanasas City MO and back home and only used about a 1/4 of a quart of oil. This engine runns very strong all it really need is a carb rebuild. I haven't messed with the carb in over 7 years, and it is starting to show.

I am located in Southern IN in the town of Evansville. If a 200 is what you are looking for this one would be a great deal. Low mileage and the same on the tranny.

Squeal1, sounds like a good deal but I have no idea what shipping would cost and I'm just starting to look around here. Later this winter would be an ok time. I will most definately keep you in mind if I can't find something decent localy. If you can let me know about how much you would want for the 200 and trany. Oh what kind of trany is it? We are trying to save up our pennies. You know the wives keep us on a budget, hehe. Thanks a lot let me know.

Hey Newguy I will tell you what, shipping probably would not be in you best interest, I dont' know what city you live in but maybe we could work something out as far as how to get it to ya. As far as how much I want for it...........You give me a reasonable offer I will not refuse it. Like I said I will help as much as I can, it is a great runnin engine and has a lot of life left in it.

Surly if you can't come up with something close we can get it to ya some how.

Two versions of the 200 will be harder to swap.

The first is the 65 and earlier engine which has a slightly differnt bell housing bolt pattern that only accepts the small bell. The second is the 81-83 Big Bell 200 which has a low mount starter and a bell pattern that is 2/3rds the same as a Small block Ford.

All the other 200 blocks from 1966-1983 will be an easy swap with your 170. Only other thing to watch is the 78-83 Fox body 200's have rear sumps, so you'll need your old pan and oil pump pickup. You will also need to plug the rear dipstick tube and add yours to the correct location.

    Oops forgot

I am parting out a 76 Mav with a 200 3spd in it. Engine runs great (I still drive it around). I make a trip to Montana every year to see friends and relatives. I could haul this motor or the one in IN. to you if you are not in a hurry. I usually show up in June. If not, I can point you to a guy in montana that will have everything...and I mean everything!!!!!!

If anyone else is interested in a good running 200 let me know.
I never realized the power one of these I6's have in a Maverick. I rebuilt a 66 mustang with a 200 or 170 in it and it was a dog compared to this 76. I understand now why people leave them in Mavericks!!! I still need to ride in a strong 250 I6...maybe someone at one of the shows this year someone will volunteer???

    Email me if interested.
