I know a lot about the 71 Maverick, but my question is this, Other than the ignition biung in the dash, what is the difference between a 70 and a 71? (breaks, suspension, etc..)

I found a 1970, and I am looking into buying it, but I might want to be able to drop a 302 in later. I know about the issues of the swap, just unsure of the 70 model.

    Thanks for any info provided

    Glen

I "think" that '71 was the first year for staggered rear shocks...

early part of 70 was the 69.5,with key on the dash.the front sunspension,or most of it was based on the falcon.mid 70 the mav went into it's own.on the 69.5 i believe the tranny tunnel is more narrower than an actual 70.double check the info though.

hookers. i'll get todd to find the exact model number. i do know he un-did the frame mounts one side at a time and lifted the engine to make it easier. then the other side. but they DO fit. uhhhh we are switching to floor shifter tho.

scott, that would be great.are you using the v-8 z-bar?i went with a 302 and three spd.on the floor also...trying to use the six cyl.z-bar and it looks like i might have interference issues.tried a pair of shoty headers and they hit right where the z-bar mount screw stud screws into the block.good luck with your build-up. chuck.

believe the tranny tunnel is more narrower than an actual 70

The tranny tunnel got wider in '71 when the floor shift was introduced. Still doesn't cause a problem, I've had floor shifted 3-, 4-, and 5-speeds in my '70. As for the z-bar, the small 6 cylinder Maverick ball studs fit right up to '66 Mustang 289 linkage.
