I am getting a 1986 Lincoln Towncar from my uncle. It has a 302 automatic. It has a throttle body. I was wondering about how much power it had and would it be a roller motor
I don't know the exact horsepower figures, though I would expect 180-190. They are more torquey engines to move that 2 ton car. My grandpa had an '85 and '88 Town Car, they were surprisingly peppy to be so heavy. I believe it could be hit or miss with as far as it being a roller in '86. Only way to know for sure is to pull it apart and see. I've seen them both ways in the junk yard. I'd have no problem putting one in my Maverick, but don't expect it to be a monster. Someone else probably knows more about the specifics of the internals.
i used to hav a '87 ans i was pretty quick for being a heavy ol' boat. i could still ge it to peel out tho. wish i had it now. i'd have a new home for that engine lol
I found on wikipedia that it had 145Hp. I figure with a good intake, Holley carb, MSD ignition and headers it should be around 200 Hp. If it will move a 4000 pound car around good it should be quick in a Maverick
The reason the 302 performed in those road boats was that they used a 3.50 rear gear. If you want your Maverick to do the same then put in 3.50 gears.
Well, it has a T5 and a 3:55 posi, and a "B" cam, and it runs very well. I love the sound the cam makes, and it gets better gas mileage than the old engine. Very satisfied with it. No track times, as it isn't broken in very well yet. That will come later.
