    Hey Guys,

I've been looking around at the 98-01 Explorer/Mountaineer for a daily driver. I found this one, just wanted to see what you guys thought of it color combo etc...This isn't an old man vehicle is it lol? Like the title says it's a

    1999 Mercury Mountaineer 2WD, 5.0L V8.
1 Owner, traded in at Ford dealer.
    Gray leather interior.
    123,000 Miles.

The only issues I know of without seeing it in person are: The cruise control buttons on the steering wheel need to be replaced, non matching tires. Rear tires are Micheline Front tires are Goodyears. That's what I know without going to look at it. It's a 160 miles away from where I live.

    Price $4,000 Non negotaible.

    Opinions and or info appreciated.

    Thanks

Damn, that's cheap. I wish cars were that cheap and well preserved over here. If it's at a Ford dealer is it likely to be in good condition isn't it? Or at least it's been checked by the dealer technicians, right?

maybe because this is a Maverick message board. Try the message board at explorer.to

    :D

As far as color combo.....it looks pretty good.

I think that price is a little high for a 2WD....but then again, nobody would want a 2WD one around here.

BTW Craig, what would they want where you are. AWD or 4WD?

well, my wife has a 2000 Explorer XLT, 4.0, 4x4, LOADED (leather, roof rack, moon roof, power everything, etc.) and is close to that color. It had 104K on it when we bought it last year and only paid $4500 for it. I agree with Craig, I personally think it's a little high for a 4x2 and for that year and mileage but hey, it's a dealership so you have to expect dealership prices.....

Mean Maverick posted the best response (actual experience).

I would think you get get a 4x4 for that price. A 2WD up here would be about $1000 to $1500 less.

I'm not set on that one. I found a black Explorer XLT 5.0L V8 4WD 98K, for $4000. Gonna call tommorow to see if they still have it. I just don't know exactly how much the 4WD will affect the gas mileage vs 2WD. And is it reliable? I don't want to have a bunch a repair costs in having one. This is going to be my daily driver.

4WD will get worse gas milage than a 2WD.

I called about the black Explorer. Turns out it's AWD (All Wheel Drive) not 4WD. I'm not familer with AWD. Can someone explain how it works? also is it good.

i dunno how it works, but mine is 4x4 but yet on the selector for the 4x4 it says "auto" and that's where it stays unless you change it. the vehicle will automaticlly switch to 4-High when the rear tires spin/lose traction
