spring cleanup time. anyone know a good method of removing oil stains from concrete? anyone know a good way to separate water & oil? is there anything i can pour the mixture thru that will filter out one of them? any ideas? i was thinking about putting the drain pan in the freezer after letting them sit & separate, but dont really need the odors in with the food/house. thanx
Kitty litter. Grind it into the stain with your shoes, then sweep it up. There is also a cleaner that shops use. It's more expensive, of course...
maybe simple green, used it at my work but not sure how well it worked as it was awhile ago, but is cheap
You can also use muratic acid. Dilute it about 1 part acid to 10 parts water, and let it sit for a few minutes. Worked on my garage floor. Problem was, the paint was junk, and the tires lifted it. Try the acid. You can get it at Lowe's or Home Depot.
any other cleaners aside from muriatic? simple green does next to nothing. these are older stains, so kitty litter doesnt do much. any way to separate the oil & water in the drain pan?
there is a product that i've seen advertised that you pour (as in a liquid) on to the old stain, let it sit and it turns into a powder. They say it will pull the worst stains out of the concrete. However, I can't remember the name.....maybe someone else can help.
Depending on how much oil stain you are talking about.I use the spray cans of brake cleaner(there are several different brands at Auto-Zone)I buy the stuff that's on sale to do clean up.After you soak an area, wipe it up and move to the next spot. Then I put Dawn dish soap on the floor and work it in real good with a stiff shop broom. Finally,I put the Floor Dri on.Get the stuff that is made from clay. When you crush it,it will go right in to the concrete and work.Hope this helps. As for separating oil and water, only way that I know is to heat it up and evaporate the water out. That is tricky though and I don't recommend doing it.If you are just trying to get the water out so you can dispose of the oil,add rubbing alcohol to the mixture.Alcohol and water will mix and then the oil and alcohol mix, then it turns into one consistent mixture. The reclaimers will distill out the water when they refine/clean the oil. What they really hate is any gasoline or solvents in the oil.
