has anyone ever done a 300 i6 swap? saw a video of one with a turbo in a maverick but no build videos and was wondering how hard it would be. It would be a better fit than a v8 and I could use the c4 I already have with some stronger guts so it seems like a good route.

Has anyone ever swapped a 300 i6 into a maverick? found a video on youtube of a maverick with a 300 i6 and a turbo that was impressive but no build videos. The 300 would be a better fit than a 302 v8 and I could use the c4 I already have afyter a rebuild with stronger guts, so in theory it seems like a good route to go...advice?

Forget it, 300 is far too long to fit without modding radiator support and/or firewall. Plus it's approx 50 lb heavier than a all iron 302/5.0

If it were easy there'd have been numerous swaps, not one or two.

wasn't considering length. was thinking width-wise it would leave more room making it easier to work on. f I was going stick shift I would run a turbo 2.3 but Id like to keep this one an automatic and strong automatics for the 2.3 are hard to come by.

the Frankinsix search brings up the car, yes. But no videos of how the engine is fit into the car

Width is also an issue from what I understand, there is clearance issues with some intakes and the strut tower if I recall.

looks like might go small block after all...is a 289 any skinnier than a 302?

    Nope, exact same size.

The 302 was derived from 289 by increasing stroke by .130, only real difference in two engines.

A long, long time ago in a junkyard far away, I saw an inline 6 in a pinto. The back two cylinders were under the dash. I was horrified by the sight, but it was curious. I imagine a nicely built 2000 cc overhead cam 4 would have given much more bang for the buck.

I agree that the 300ci 6 is a rather large engine to stuff into a Maverick......... but there’s nothing like the rumble of a big 6 when you open the 4 barrel breathing through a dual outlet Hooker header and a couple of Flomasters!!

yep. much taller and longer block that sits further forward too. More nose weight and higher center of gravity sure won't help these cars already miserable handling. lol

I built a really nice one for my truck many years ago.. cam/intake/headers ported head 6,500 rpm all day long and still BIG torque from a low rpm dig. Love those motors(well, accept for the hella long pushrods) but if I was to try stuffing one into these cars then the firewall would surely get cut to move everything back and down afap. Sure is cool to be different though. I'd sure take some pic's if I saw it out in the wild!
