    Hey guys,
I recently bought a maverick with a 302 swapped into it. Im trying to find out what year it is so i can order parts correctly. My manual says the engine id tag is located on the alternator adapter. So i checked my motor and got the number ( 75A E9SFBA G 31 1 B ) off it. I cant for the life of me find a decoder for what this means. Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance guys! 20170128_153916.jpg

That's the alt number pictured... Tag would have been under bolt, rarely were they reinstalled if bolt had to be removed, if I remember correctly the tags didn't exist after '73 Or 74, was a paper label on valve cover... It's really all for naught anyway, most pieces interchange from year to year...

If you want to know what year the block is, look in the rear near the starter or on either side of the rear of the block for the casting numbers. A flat tappet block's numbers are above the starter, roller blocks are on a flat area at the rear of the block. Post these numbers and someone can tell you more. Also look for the date code on the block, this is a number/letter/number code. The first number is the year of the decade it was cast, decade is determined by the first character of the casting numbers. The letter is the month cast, Starting with "A" for January thru "M" for December (letter "I" was skipped) The last number or numbers is the day of the month it was cast. Also look at the heads, starting in the mid 80's, there were 4 heads cast for a 302/351. Those with a letter "T" cast into the front corner of the passenger side head next to the valve cover are E7TE heads. Those with a letter "S" there are E6SE heads. The GT40 heads had "GT" cast here, GT40P heads had "GTP" there. The pre 1986 heads are almost impossible to ID without removing them from the block.
