So here it is.....I've made no progress in two weeks. I still need the alternator bracket and pullies. I'm using and was told to use a crown vic water pump....1989. It seems that those cars used a serpintine belt.....Help what now? Are there other cars that used that pump.....can I get v-groved pullies? what other water pump can I use.......Anything I need to finnish this thing. Oh yea, the shifter thing too......is there a place to get the gear selector.......the junk yards wont let me take apart a trans/

    A little advice

    First off

Try a few junk yards, go there in person and explain your situation tell the long story and adlib all the trouble you've went through... they will likely take pity on you and let you out in the yard at worst with a dismantiler... You point he pulls... Tip him he'll remember you the next time ;) ... also tell him the same story you told the counter guy a good dismanteler really knows his stuff and give you dozens of sugestions you never even thought of!

As for the brackets you need... find a 302 car around the same year as your motor (this probably doesn't matter as i dought they changed it any ( question better left answered by someone else) The brackets should swap, alternaters are all have pretty much the same bolt patterns... And last but not least buy your parts from a locally owned store, the counter help is generally much more willing to help.... Where as places like Auto Zone have trouble pulling you the right part when you know exactly what you need. I put a dinasour olds motor in an '80 firebird several years ago (huge headache) and my parts guy would send me home with several diferent parts that might fit then I'd bring back the ones that didn't and pay for the one that did!!!! Customer service still exists sometimes it takes awhile to find it...

    Good Luck

I'm not sure what you need but if its a v-grove waterpump, take a look at the pick up trucks to 85. They are all v belt equipped.

    Ok

I have two different brackets for the alternator but neither bolt to the crown vic pump that I bought and was told to run by this board.....back in the day. I also have pullies from a 302 maverick but without the right bracket for the alternator nothing lines up for the belt.........
My other situation is the change over from column to floor shift. At one time I had all I needed accept for the actual selector......reading somewhere here that all you had to do is switch it arround....I did and proceded to modify the linkage without satifactory results. Now I neeed everything. selector and linkage. where does one buy one of these selectors...... Headers are a problem too. I have two sets some long tube and shorties.....I don't see how either are going to fit.....I'm going back to column shift and running mainifolds....I guess. I'm really close to either killing myself or someone else.

JC, how about starting over again and telling what you have for an engine, trans, and year. What you need for parts etc. I think everyone is now as confused with trying to help as you. What long tube headers and what short headers do you have?
I have run long tubes on my 73 and now have short tubes on. Try to give as much clear info as you can, you really don't have as much of a problem as you think. Need to know what alternator you want to use. With different later year setups there often is a difference in locations of these parts so the whole setup needs to be used for all to line up etc. I am still using the old wide V belt set up with a 90 amp internally regulated Mustang alternator. The pulley is changed from the serpintine style to the wide Vbelt type and a spacer to locate it to the correct lineup with the rest of the pullies. On top of all that, the engine is the old 302, fuel injected. Just hang in here, take a breath and lets start over so we know what you have and what you need.
Whats say? I will help you by e-mail if you would like.
    Ken

    I concur...

Be cool, man. I know what it's like. I'm terribly impatient. I was tooling around like decapitated poultry for months until I finally found this setup: Crown Vic police package water pump, timing cover from a random 351, '85 Granada serpentine P/S bracket with 1/8" hacksawed off and some really long bolts to make it adjustable, a two-piece alternator bracket found on the ground and bent to fit, and a chanced-upon 4-groove bottom pulley that was sitting on top of an '80s Thunderbird, but didn't come from it.

For the column-to-floor shift, I just went out and got a B&M Megashifter. It works and looks great.

I know none of that helped you, but hang tight, and I'm sure you'll figure out all your woes. I promise.

    Good luck,
    Atzy.
