After much research and extremely high estimates, I decided to remove wasted power steering system and go to manual. The last step is the fanbelt setup I need help with. Should I get a idler pulley to replace the pump pulley (this will require a difference bracket I haven't been able to find) or should I replace the fan pulley with a shallower one that will connect the alternator, water pump and crank/vibration dampner. I haven't seen a 302 with manual steering to visualize this and my five volume shop manual has no clue. I have gone to the wrecking yard but no engines are complete enough to see. Help!
i have manual steering on my car and i just run a shorter belt between the three pulleys, why would you want to add an extra pulley if you dont have to??
The fan/water pump pulley currently sets further in to run with the power steering pulley and the crank. If I ran it with the alternator, which I agree would be the easiest, I would have to get a different shallower pulley on the fan, or move the alternator closer to the engine where there is no room. So it sounds like getting a shallower pulley on the fan/water pump would be best, but where can I find such a pulley?
hmm, well i might have one at home but i wont be able to check for you untill the end of the month as that is the next time that i actually will be getting home, sorry. if nothing turns up keep me in mind
