ok..i want to know some things about blowers... 1.is it ok to drive in the rain with them? 2.are they still posible on an automatic tranny? 3.are there any leagal reason agains having them on a street car? thanx for your help guys
1. Yes 2. Yes 3. Maybe. If your talking about a large 671-size blower, some states have height restrictions on hoods and things sticking out of them. They don't want the driver's vision obscured. Call your state police, they can tell you.
Lord, if you put all these things togather for the street there would never be enough tire bite to handle all the power. If you would consider a Kenne Bell blower and fuel injection, it will all fit under the hood with careful work. The end result would be so much torque from 2000 rpm up that the tires will just burn at the touch of the throttle. Unless all you want to do is impress, its a waist of money in such a light car for the street to build that much power. Lower gears will make it worse yet. I know your young and can't see it any other way so I may be talking to the wind.
Mine is a 302 w/671 2 600 holleys on it, and I run a slightly beefed c-4 w/ 3.50 gears, I drive it on the street all the time, the only problem I had was when I first got the blower it ran alittle warm so I installed a 4 core radiator w/ an electric fan, now it runs in the 165-175 degree range. Have someone that knows about blowers set it up for youand it will run fine, Leo's Blowers in St. Louis Mo set mine up. Mine is underdriven but still has lots of power if you want it, but again it depends what you want to do with it. Chandler
I drive mine almost every day with around 550-600 HP and I havent had any problems. It all depends on how heavy your right foot is. IMHO, I don't really think it's a waste of money, more a matter of if you want to do it and have the time/money/place, go for it. You only live once!
what you would do ok...for those of you who thinf im puting to much power in...what would you suggest i put in? i mean so i have just enough that i need? oh yeah...i am driving a 4 door too..it is a little more heavy than your guys two doors right? so wouldnt the extra boost help out?
You could also consider a Paxtang supercharger. They make a blow through model for carb'ed applications and it fits under the hood. About the same price and power as a blower. And there's always nitrous. It's only used when you need it and you turn it on. The down side is having to get the bottle refilled. I get about eight quarter mile runs on a bottle. Costs $40 to refill. Sounds expensive but compared to the initial cost of a blower it's a good $2000 less, and I can buy a lot of nitrous for $2000!
I thought a blower was very streetable because you could change the belts around so that it would be giving almost no boost in like 10 mins ? And then change it back when you needed it... Maybe I am thinking of sumthing else tho...
yeah..i though i hear somthing about changing the belts....i dont know though even if i didnt i could still function on the street if i didnt punch it all the time right?
