A friend of mine is trying to identify the heads on his motor. Their supposed to be 351 heads but this is the only # he can find. Does this mean anything to anyone?
I think it is a date code, keep looking cause the type of head should start with a letter. I break down the numbers above to be 0=1970 k=oct 20 =day of the month
The numbers you would need to see are on the bottom of the heads just under the intake ports. To see this you would have to pull the intake manifold off of the engine, and use a hand held mirror . Under one of the ports you would see 351 and towards the other end of the head under another port you would see a casting code such as DOOE .
Are there washers under the headbolts ? If not they are probably 302 heads . You could pull one head bolt out and measure the size of the hole A 351 had 1/2 bolts and 302/289 had 7/16 bolts . Generally machine shops put put hardened washers under the 7/16 bolts unless they use aftermarket bolts or studs .
351 Markings Hi Dennis, Just my 2 cents: All 351 W heads that I have ever seen all had 351 embossed on the head. I've sold 4 or 5 sets on ebay and have seen maybe 7 or 8 other set and everyone has this bold 351 right on the head between the valves. This doesn't mean ford didn't make them without that but I've never seen them. Hope this helps. Terry Gates AKA Bossmav
BossMav is right they DO have a 351 cast right in tho the top of the head, I have a set of 302 heads and a set of dooe 351 heads and I went and looked at them and they all have the 302 or 351 on top Sorry if I alarmed you.
What lightning said .... look at the hole size ... they make sleaves so you can mount a 351 head to a 302 block... the dia. of the 351 hole is larger ...
Identification Mine are D0 (1970) and have '351' and a 'W' stamping elsewhere for Windsor I assume. As far as head bolts, Mine are Ford Motorsport bolts designed with a wider shoulder to mate the 351 head to the 302 block. Seth
