Hi everyone. I know someone selling a 351w and transmission out of a 1986 f150 4x4. I figured the transmission won't work but will the 351w still bolt up to my c4 trans in my 1973 Mercury Comet. If so is the c4 strong enough? I plan on getting v8 c4 and rebuilding it.

Unless ur going "Crazy Power" C4 built right, can take lots of abuse/power.

c4 is a good trans, don`t need to put piles of money in one until you push more than 400tq & 400hp.

If it is a PEE version then it's built at least close to V8 specs...

You'll need a 351 C4 flexplate(same as pre '81 302) as the balance is different for the 250 and I doubt the C4 will bolt to flex currently on 351...

An '86 351 isn't going to make tons of power anyway unless you put aftermarket heads on it.

I used a c4 from a 1980 Granada that had a 250 in it. The 250 flex plate had 164 teeth, so I bought a 302 flex plate for a 1980 Granada (correct balance and 164 teeth). It is all put together, but I havent run it yet (still need to figure out cooling lines and column shift with headers). I have read that the clutch packs on the 250 c4 are the same as a v8. I hope I read that right.
