Have a friend who needs info on 1966 Mustang 47cc heads. Anyone know which 289 they were used on? Dan
Dan, to get the best info, the casting numder is needed to Id the heads. All the 221 engines had small chambers. 63, C3OE are 49 cc heads. All the rest are larger. Nothing that small in 66 or 67. There was a 53 cc head in 68 on a 304 4v engine. C8OE-F This is all according to my Ford engine books. The chambers all have a cc tolerence so can be specified differently from chart to chart.
47cc Heads Ken has the same numbers I found, I also wa thinking along the lines of 221 or 260 engines. For some reason I seem to remember the #47cc for a 221 that a friend of mine destroked to 215ci. It was when I drove midgets and that was the limit on size as was the case with the awesome Offy's back then. I had a V8 60 flatty and was a tough job to compete with them. The Falcon six was coming into play as well, that 221 was a terror but the car was not quite right for handling it, chassis wise. This board sometimes jars loose some past memories of good times. Thanks guys and gals.
Hi Dave, were headed to the 1/3 mile dirt next season with a 351W powered sportsman winged sprinter on alky. Makes the ole heart pound. Two weeks ago the only other car that is Ford powered ran away with the feature against all the chevs. God bless the N351 FMS heads and big victor intake. Our local shop that builds these kinds of Ford engines says 550 hp baby. About 40 more than I thought up into the 7800 rpm range. Son is the driver. A little more than I want to handle anymore now! For crist sake these cars lift the front, out of the turns and down the straights.
Those sprints are a ride, aren't they? I had a chance to drive a buddy's car a while back, and even at half throttle it was scary. Once you get used to how the car handles and how the motor acts, it's not too bad, but still..you have to be a little bit loco to drive a car that weighs 1250 lbs and has 854 HP with 2 different sized rear tires!
Thanks guys, here is the story on these heads. I have not seen them. But I do know the car. Dude who owns it is a very talented car guy, but does mostly street rods. The car is a California origin 66 stang 289 3spd manual convertible. I do not have the vin info to tell if it is an A, C , or K car, though I do not think it is a K car. Very nice car that he is redoing, there is a tag in the door jamb that states a factory replacement engine has been installed and dated 1966 I believe. The only thing he can see on the heads, and yes the heads are off is this,,,, 66 289 and he claims that is it. The heads have also been to an old well know machine shop here. They claim they are 47 cc and also claim that these were used on the hipo cars. I do not believe this information is all correct. I will inspect the heads myself and let you know what I find. Thanks again guys!! Dan
