I have the engine about 70% out of my 86 gt donor car right now. I hit the little air valve like thing on the ac line, and heard a little air escape. I assume this is freon?? I don't want to purge to the atmosphere. Can I yank the engine with the a/c and all the lines complete without venting?? What if i don't want to run a/c on my maverick once this engine is installed?? the donor car is too far apart to take in to a licensed a/c person at this point. Is there a way of safely purging the system myself?? I don't know how much freon is in the system, I would assume not much because the a/c was not working, but I am not completely sure. Jeremy
You're pretty much stuck as there is no way to seal off the sytem & dissassemble it at the same time. I doubt that you would be able to dismount the compressor & move it far enough out of your way to finish removing the engine.
so what do I do, yank the engine complete with all the a/c stuff still attatched and put it in the maverick that way?? I am sure there is a way to purge those lines, as the bleeder valve has threads for something to screw onto, so all I would have to do is find the approved container to thread onto and purge it right?? then i could disco the ac lines, yank the engine, then pull the compressor off? Am I on track here??
Good Luck!! Those systems are designed to be vacuumed off. There are machines that pull a vacuum to take the gas out so that it will not be released into the atmosphere. I believe some states have laws regarding the release of those gasses. I don't know what to tell you. Maybe a local HVAC company would come and bleed them off for you? Aside from that, taking the whole thing to a mechanic with that machine is your only option. Seth
It is something like a $27,000 fine to release freon into the air. Your neighbor can get a $12,000 reward for turning you in, so call an AC place and have it sucked out.
by all means I don't plan on venting it to the atmosphere. Not for financial sake, more for moral reasons, I would have a hell of a guilt trip. I don't see why I couldn't just disconnect all the lines, and compressor, and leave it as a sealed unit, but have it off the engine, then slep it all to an a/c person. I'll have to take a closer look when I get home.
