Hey guys I was wondering what oil pan, pick up and dip stick I need to get to put an 89 5.0 in my Maverick. All of the crate motors I have seen from Ford have a dip stick going into the side of the oil pan. Did these oil pans come on any factory cars? They don't list the pan in the Ford Racing catalogue. If I use the older timing cover with the dipstick in the cover, then is there a place I have to block off for a fuel pump? I'm using an electric pump. Also what year pickups will fit the 89 oil pump? Sorry for all the questions, but I want to buy the right parts the first time! Thanks for all your help.
Adam, I don't know what dip stick the FMS uses on their crate engines, but I have a 7 quart oil pan with the dip-stick on the side. I intend to block off the original oil hole (where the pin is in the picture) with an NPT ftg. This oil pan is designed for a 1990 Mustang and modified to fit the Maverick. See the 3" X 3" (45 deg) cut and re-weld on the rear sump. BTW, I use a rear sump oil pump. High PRESSURE - NOT HIGH VOLUME! If you need to know the manufacturer, I can look it up, but the application information alone will allow you to do some comparison shopping. I'd also ask them how much it would be to modify it (3" X 3' cut-out). The pan cost around $200.00 and the mod was around $35.00 but if you have a welder.......???
Rick, nice setup. Adsmav, you will need the oil pan, pickup, and timing cover from the earlier 302. This will locate the sump in front as opposed to the "back". You can purchase fuel pump block off plates at the local speed shop for under 5 bucks. I used a 74 pan, pickup and timing cover on a later roller block with no problems. You will need to block off the dipstick hole on the side of the block and mounting the "hold down" for the front dipstick may require a little fabrication.
