I'm not sure how many of you are following or have even heard of the time capsule they're digging up in Tulsa. If you're not familiar, here's a link. http://www.buriedcar.com/

They took the lid off this morning. A friend of mine walked down there and took this picture. They'll be lifting the car out on Friday and unwrapping it Friday night. There was about 3 feet of water. On the right side of the wall, you can see water lines. Looks to me as if it has been completely full at one point in time. The car is vacuum sealed in a bag. The question is, did it hold.

I've been following this, and we're discussing it on another forum I frequent.
It will be cool to see! :) Too bad about the water, though.

My vote ... that car is toast ... no way it sat in a pool of water all these years and remained dry ... :(

Probably so - it all depends on if the bag lasted. It was vacuum sealed in a bag that would supposedly last 1200 years.

Here's a photo taken from the same angle as the picture above.

My guess is that the car is trashed. Look at that bag closely, looks like dirt and water under it to me. Look at the cement wall in front of it where the mud is still stuck on from the water being at that level for a long period of time. That car spent months, possibly years, half submerged under water. And it is obvious to me that water has been over the roof, probably more then once. That really sucks.

    Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Yeah - we'll find out on Friday.
I want to say that it's not in bad shape, but I know that it's probably about like a car that's been sitting at the bottom of the lake for 30 or 40 years. I'm sure the box held for the first 10.
Most of our local news stations are doing a live broadcast of the event. I think it starts at either 6:00 or 6:30 CST. You can probably watch it over the web too. Here are our local stations.

I hope its not rusted out, because even with the loss of the car... it means everything inside is trash also that they put in it

I just hope they will be able to find out who wins the car, with the microfilm of all the population guesses sealed in a can inside the car. I think it'll look like something pulled from the swamp. Still really cool to do something like that 50 years ago.
