Anyone know if there is one between the engine and the trans? I'm helping a friend replace some and there is coolant leaking behind the motor...thanks.
Yes there are Two that cap off the back of the cyl bore cooling passages.Gotta pull the flywheel/flexplate as well as trans to fix em.Hope its the intake for you.Good luck.
It's not the intake . Butch (from church) is a good older guy and needs help as he has a bad leg and can't get around too well. He helped me do a hand rail replacement for Exie (a 92 year old woman from church). He realy wants to help any way he can, but you kinda don't want to put too much on him. Just one of them guys that has had it rough his whole life and has come from a very low place to seeking the Lord. He does have intresting life stories, now i'm in one of them, anyway... This Grand Marquise he bought as a "great bargain" for $700.00 is in need of mechanical repaires. He tells me it runs great and he isn't able to afford the cost and how he used to be able to do it himself yadayada. This was a month ago. Two weeks ago I offered to do it for him as a thank you for helping me take care of Exie, which was done by Royal Gates for free just because we care... He had done the plug behind the starter and that was all he could do. He discovered the other behind the motor mount laying on the mount when he was putting the starter back on. He checked the driver side and they were good. I get the passanger side plug in that he said it needed. As I am filling it I hear what I don't want to hear. Coolant is running out of the driver side, from the plug behind the motor mount! AHHH!! He's telling me he will just park it in the yard and see if someone will buy it for $600. I said I am willing to try and tackle that one also. I didn't know the support bracket bolts were rounded . I finaly got it off using an air hammer, I love Snap On right about now. Get it all back together and we're feeling good. He starts filling it and then we hear it again. That sound that you wish was really rain, but it's green and pouring out from under the car. I can't find it leaking any where externaly. I see it coming from behind the inspection cover at the bottom of the trans. He said that he has had all the fun he needed from that car so we cleaned up and had dinner and fellowship. Wow,, I'm guessing engine froze with only water in it to push all them plugs out. Gonna have to think this one out, if engine did get frozen that much, Good chance damage other than the plugs! Hate to see you do all that work to find out heads or block cracked! If you decide to replace the back plugs, before you put back together pressure check water system an see if any other leaks develop, leave pressure on overnight if you can as a cold engine may not even show leaks. There are no freeze plugs on the back of the engine block!!!!God I hope you havent torn into that thing yet.I am a dummy,Sorry.There are 2 freeze plugs on the back of the heads though.One on each.Man I really hope you didnt tear that thing apart on my Big fat mistake.I dont know what I was thinking of.
'87 5.0. I don't know too much about them... As far as clasifying the block and stuff anyway. You called it a Windsor and I don't know what to think when you say that. I do think 351, but I also think that the block for the 351 is the same for the 302...? Not sure if that is even correct or if there is a year specific on that. Who's the dummy now?
