Hey guys I need some help. This is gonna sound stupid but I'm having problems pulling the axles out of my 9" Are there any hidden C-clips or anything that holds them in that I may have missed??? Or am I just not beating them hard enough??? This is the first time I've ever really worked on one before so this is really new to me. Any info that you guys can give would greatly be helpful. I think I've definitly tried everything.

    pulling the axles

Dustin, this is how I do it, get the car as level as you can so when the axles come out the oil doesn't give you a bath, take the 4 retaining nuts off then I reverse the brake drum and turn 3 of the lug nuts on about 3 /4 to 1 full turn on the studs, this way you should be able to then use the brake drum as a large puller, for thought you should be able to push the reversed drum in and out on the studs to popped the bearing loose. It may sound nutty and I know there is a tool out there but I have ALWAYS done it this way and never had a problem. One more thing make sure you do not drag your axle over the seal unless you are planning on replacing it. Hope that helps Chandler

On each axle just behind the end were the wheel studs are ,there are 4 nuts that hold the axle in place have you removed them? If you havent then remove all four nuts from each end of the axle ,then slip a brake drum onto the wheel studs with the drum backwards (flipped from the way they usually go on) Start a few of the lug nuts onto the wheel studs, about 4 turns each...Now use the brake drum as a alide hammer by pushing it against the axle ,then snatching it towards use very hard it may take several times doing this ,but it has always worked for me.

Thanks guys, I thought that was what I was gonna have to do. I just wanted to make sure before I ruined my rearend. Will they go in as hard as they came out??? And are those bearings easy to replace??? It's hard telling when the last time they were replaced, could somebody as inexperienced as me do them???

No it is easy to put the axles back in ,but the bearings are pressed on and you`ll need to go to a machine shop to have the old ones removed and new ones pressed on. ;)
