my girl friends mom's 1998 olds intrigue with a 2300 series v6 is having an a/c issue

when you turn on the a/c the compressor just keeps clicking on and off. it wont stay on and the air never gets cold

i brought it into my shop class, evacuated the system and refilled it to the factory spec and also found there to be no leaks or anything

it seems like for some reason the compressor just wont stay engaged

    any ideas?

Possibly a defective AC refrigerant pressure sensor?

i really dont know, a/c definatly isnt my strong suit when it comes to whats under the hood

i'll have to bring it into the shop again at school and hook it up to a diagonistic mechine i suppose. didnt really have too much time to get at it this week. i was hoping the system flush i did would do the trick

    Probably a pressure switch.

Most cars have a low pressure switch, that when the refrigerant pressure is low, it will denergize the clutch, some cars also have a low ambient switch, that will do the same thing. You'll have to put some gauges on it and see whats going on, if the pressure is constant and the clutch isn't staying on, then you've got to figure out whats causing it, or if the pressure is dropping, could be the TX valve, or something along that line. How long did you leak test it for? You can't just pull a vacuum to perform a leak test, it should be done with a positive pressure.
