AC vacuum switches

    Just thought I'd give you some insight in these switches for those that dont know. If your factory ac only blows out the defroster, than most likely the vacuum switch is broken. The arrow points to the plastic collar which breaks off and then the outer plastic washer along with the rubber washer with all the channels cut in, falls off. It will look like the switch on the left.

    Now here is the switch to look for. It is from a 70 mav. I'm not sure when they went to the plastic switch but this baby is all metal. The compressor switch is at the opposit side of the vacuum ports but it can be easily adapted to use in later cars.

    I bought a car that needed one of these, and I found two of the switches at a local salvage yard. Now the first one I put in is starting to leak. Does Ford still have replacements?

    There is no replacement but I found a NOS one at Green Sales.

    thanks for that, I have had that problem before, and now know what to look for

    My 94 tbird did that, everytime I stepped on the gas hard, the ac would go up through the defroster, real aggrevating, makes you drive slow as hell.
