Okay, hooking up an new CD unit and have no cig lighter, hence dont know what wires are what, have looked at the postings on this sort of thing, and nothing looks like what others have talked of. I have a 72 Grabber if that helps. There are some blue and red striped wires and some white ones and even a red and blue striped one. SOme hook to the old type of connector deal. I have tested using a tester and most all come up neg. I have run a direct power line and still nothing with the unit? Besides taking the unit back any ideas out there? Im thinking if I knew which wire coming out of the column was the AC I would piggy in and see what happens since there are sep. wires for a constant 12v and the AC. Help if you can! Its driving me crazy, besides freezing my A off in this weather--wish I had that heated garage! Later
Worst case scenario, you can find something hot and switched, or run a new wire right from the fuse box, so don't give up. Give me a minute, I am pretty sure we have access to the wiring diagrams, I just need to find them and post a link... EDIT--I cannot seem to find them, but I thought we had year-by-year wiring diagrams on here in an easy-to-find location...Anyone know where those are, if we have them?
Do you have a good ground? I wouldn't think you'd want to jumper off any wires coming out of the column, there for a different things, like reverse lights, ignition, horn. Did you check the existing fuse for the radio? at both sides with a test light? (to a good ground)
If the harness is uncut, you should have a CIG lighter (fulltime hot) pigtail coiled up somewhere, it's blue with a white tracer. It'll have an "L" shaped, single pin black rubber connector. If you don't have it, tap into the hazard flasher blue/white. Hopefully, you'll be using this for clock memory only (you'll have to remember to turn off the unit, as it'll be powered all the time). There are 2 different "key-on" 12V wires, red with light green tracer and black with light green tracer. You'll have to dig around for these, however, the B/LG is in the fusebox. The blue with red tracer is for illumination (will dim with the light knob), you'll need that for the lighting. Russ
Russ: "you should have a CIG lighter (fulltime hot) pigtail coiled up somewhere, it's blue with a white tracer. It'll have an "L" shaped, single pin black rubber connector" Thanks, I found it tucked and wrapped with some other wires, which must have been the old radio harness as it had a rubber two pronged rubber connector--was just laying up in there. Connected the 12v to a pigtail on the L shaped Cig lighter ( I dont have a cig lighter for some reason, space is just open) and connected the ground and the AC connector off the CD player to the harness connection. It appeared to work as I had power and in both places with trial run --of course none with the AC off when hooked to that only and hot when hooked just to the L connector. So I hope this helps someone else some day too. Not knowing and not getting any reading for some reason off the L shaped connection really threw me. Thanks again!!!! yahoo:
