Never saw one like the old one, how do you remove it? It seems attached? The new one doesn't have the long shaft on it, is there a different one?
    Thanks.

Old diagram will pull off, it's just stuck... There should be a small shaft in kit to use as extension, carbs from '64-ish to early '70s didn't use the extended shaft...

So why are you replacing pump? Usual reason is leakage...

Thanks. It dies when you put it in gear until it's at full operating temperature. Figured I'd start there since it's been sitting for the majority of the last 25 years.

The accelerator pump doesn't do anything till the throttle is opened, not likely going to help your problem...

Thanks, any idea what it could be?

Do you know how to adjust a carburetor?

If it doesn't have a vacuum leak and adjusting idle mixture doesn't help, the idle passages in bottom of carb may be restricted... Way back when, I had more problems with power the valve in these carbs than anything else...

Vacuum leaks can be anything from a cracked hose to a stuck PCV valve or leaking EGR valve...

Choke problems and maybe fast idle cam or both.
