I put a rebuilt T5Z in my dad's '95 Mustang yesterday. I put a Fox Body bell housing on the car because the T5Z has the steel retainer and all that, which was set up for a Fox Body (SN95's have a deeper bell housing and longer input shaft). This had the effect of moving the transmission forward about an 3/4 inch or so, which required the use of a Steeda drive shaft spacer which I got at Mustangs Unlimited. Everything is all in and ready to roll, just need to add ATF to the trans. Can I pour it in through the shifter mount opening? Or do I need to pull the pipe plug out on the right side and use a hose and funnel to pour it in? Buddy of mine over on corral.net has a lift at his house and let me use it yesterday. Last time I put trans in this car, it took me a week working on it in the afternoon's after work every day, laying on my back on the ground with the car on jack stands. I drove the car over to his house at 12:00 yesterday and was done at 2:30. It took me 2 1/2 hours start to finish to swap the trans and bell housing. Man those lifts are nice.
I've done it either way, doesn't matter. The shifter opening way may take a little longer but still works.
pipe plug on the side for us. we take an old gear lube bottle and saw the bottom off. attach a long hose and start pourin.
I use a suction gun....suck it up with the gun and push it into the trans....you still should have the plug off for a level check..
the suction gun idea sounds like a good one. we'll be doin that next time. i dont know why i didnt think of that. sometimers is awful. wait, where am i? oh nevermind. im feeling much better now. only reason i liked the hose gimmick, was no one had to actually lie under the car squeezing, and being uncomfortable.
Poured it in through the shifter hole. Have driven the car about 50 miles, and it seems to be doing great. Thanks guys.
