Just finished installing my Christmas present in my daily driver (A mint, low mileage '91 Prelude); it's an iPod-ready Alpine CDE-9852 CD receiver. Potentially 7500 song hand picked library on tap (when combined with my 30 gig iPod Video), and no space consuming cd cases on board! I love it. Just set it on "shuffle" and roll. John B
Hey Johnny B. I've got to make the move into the 21st Century and get me one of them thar gadgets - just as soon as I get that indoor toilet the wife's been a wantin'.
Cool! The head unit I have in the '69.5 has a USB port on the front. I can hook a laptop to it, or load a bunch of songs to a USB memory stick and put in it. There sure as hell ain't nothin' worth listening to on FM around here anymore.
out house is normal up here in west by god , thats 21st century for us , the tree is old school you can tell how young i am i know every word he said
Another smart consumer. One in the semi truck, plan on getting another one so I can swap it between the wife's car and my pickup and the Mav. Beyond AM. Beyond FM. XM Satelite Radio.
Definitely a cool setup. Mine needs work. I've got a 30 gig mp3 player that I use in the car.. have only had 2 problems with it so far. 1) I haven't ripped enough of my cd's to make a 20 hour drive without repeats! 2) Factory radio, no aux input, and not enough power ports (cig. lighters for the old-schoolers ) to keep both my phone charged and my fm trasmitter running - a problem when driving solo. My biggest obstacle is I switch back and forth between cars so much I'd have to replace all the factory radios to get good sound in all of them!
i got a small one just to see what the hipe was about. i gotta say i really like it. going to get a bigger one someday.
O yeah.......well my Radio has a feature on it; it changes sides of the cassette without even taking the cassette out and flipping it over! BEAT THAT!!!!!
The beauty of this particular unit is that you get control of the iPod thru the head unit; no looking down at that tiny little screen on your iPod while your driving. Yes, I know that there are other units that can be made to do that too, but Alpine makes the only ones that I know of that do this without having to buy an optional converter that has to be installed under the dash. Alpine has a cord (yes, it's optional) that you plug into the back of the unit, and the other end goes into the iPod. Put some velcro on the back of your iPod, some more on your dash, and there you go! The best part is that I got the 30 gig iPod "free". My son had bought it about 9 months ago. Shortly after he got it, it fell out of his pocket without his noticing it. Since it had his name engraved on it, someone in the neighborhood returned it to him, after a car had run over it!! Needless to say, the display screen was busted up, and the unit rendered useless. A short while later, I'm telling a colleague of mine this sob story and she mentions that if the iPod was purchased on Visa, it's insured for 90 days!! Sure enough, after sending them some pics of the shattered unit and filling out the correct forms, Visa sends us the replacement value in full. Son gets a new iPod, and I forget about the broken one in the bottom of a drawer somewhere. Fastforward to Christmas; I've just gotten my new deck, and I'm wondering how long before I can afford an iPod to go with it, when it crosses my mind that, if the control functions of the iPod will be in the head unit, who cares if the video display ic busted. Sure enough, upon plugging the formerly useless iPod into my Alpine deck, it works in this capacity just fine!!! John B
I haven't looked into it yet, but I think an HD reciever will be in my future. Anyone have experience with those?
